I may go to 255-85s on my next set of tires. Since the wheels for the 235s have more offset, I'm gonna start shopping for a set. But, due to CRS, can't remember the first year for the greater offset wheels. 2000, 2001 or perhaps 2002?

I'm thinking that with a set of 1/4" spacers these wheels may work with no rubbing.

Anyone?

Thanks, RJR

I think that started in 2000. There seemed to be a minor makeover in that model year. Someone else probably has better details, though. When shopping, look for 7-holes vs 4-holes. The 7-hole wheels are the later (more offset) ones.

What about some 17" "take-offs" from an 03-05 MY? I would nix the 1/4" spacers, I doubt your lug studs are long enough? Maybe some 3/16" spacers as neccessary (from the brake pull TSB's) in the mid 90's?

I have 2005 take off alloys on my 2500! I'm pleased so far. . :)

I have a 99 that had the stock 215's and I went to 235's without needing spacers, etc. My cousin had a 2000 that came factory with the 235's and was able to go to the 255's without a spacer. The rims you have can take the 255's but you would need a spacer. Almost any decent tire shop should be able to set you up, and if it looks like you need to lengthen your studs then you can easily get them swapped out for slightly longer ones. No real reason to go buy the different rims , unless you want the different rims because of looks , etc.

I went to 235's on the stock wheels. The tires were wide enough that I had to run 80 psi in the back to keep them from rubbing. Rough ride, went to 215's the next set. Some brands are narrower than others so do a little checking.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm running Michlin 235 Ribs on the stock wheels and have had results similar to Estreme's, empty I can run at 45lbs. or so, but hook up to the backhoe or other decent load and gotta go up to 80lbs.

Just a FYI from a early TDR Mag article, the max safe cross section width is 9. 4". From my experience that seems about right.

Mine came with 215's but I changed to 235's without any problem.

I run Bridgestone MLX VSteel 235x85x16 E range tires. Plenty of clearance even with a load.
