I have never pulled or raced but am considering putting my truck in the local fair and pulling against them chebies and furds with my 97. If nothing else to get my Dad to put up or be quiet about how good his F-150 is. They have a dirt track and pull a transfer sled that is also used for the farm tractor pulls. Last year max pull was 300 yds so you don't get to go far. Also the dirt gets compacted as the day goes by but of course where most of the trucks spin out it is not as hard. This results in most trucks getting some hopping started as they go over this soft area. The heavy trucks pull last in the event schedule. My 97 has an South Bend Con O 13" conversion clutch with the NV 5600 transmission and I have Michelin LT 265-75R-16 LR E tires with near new tread. If I were to attempt this what gear and would you start with the transfer case in 4HI or 4LO? The winning truck last year was a 69 chevy 3/4 ton that had been stripped down. The driver was nearly red flagged as she built up a lot of speed and was out of control for a good part of her pull. Still got the blue ribbon though. I did not get to stay for the >7500 lb class. This truck pull is for stock trucks so I won't be running against anything to outrageous, but you never know. So what do you guys think? Will I just embarrass my self?

Pulling with the 03

NOT ALLOWED!! The rules clearly state no dual wheel trucks. Don't know what would happen if I pulled up with the dually with 2 rear wheels missing. So you don't think the 97 can smoke em?

Is the NV5600, 6 speed with a 13" conversion clutch considered stock? What about the 85 Ramcharger conversion? Grizzly ;)

I appreciate the replies

I don't think that they really look at the technical things on the trucks. They are more concerned with stock tire sizes and that you don't have nitrous or something like that. The 6 speed was available in the Dodge Ram (although not in 97) and they won't know that I running a better than stock clutch. I thin I will take it out and see which gear goes faster 3rd LO range or 2 HI range. I think speed is one of the key factors in being the winning truck and I can only run 3 K with my P7100. So I need to be moving because obviously I will run out of traction. Oo.

Isnt 300yds like 900 feet?? thats pretty far!!! (I think you meant 30yds, right?)

Get some gov springs for your 7100. Just because one gear is a little faster than the other, will your clutch handle it???

I think it's 300 feet

I stand corrected I think its 300 feet. They gear the transfer sled to reach the top at about 200 feet and if anyone reaches the 300 foot mark they add more weight to the sled for the next pull off regear the sled to reach the top sooner. I think I will run out of power before I will slip the SB clutch. However I'm not sure about the transfer case. Obviously the 4L position will be easier on the clutch but will the transfer case take the torque and speed? What do you guys think? I do have the NV 241HD case that was used in the 97 3500s. Thanks for the replies. I'm learning a lot to help me be successful at beating these furds! Ken Irwin
