Are any of you as tired of the crappy plate lights on these trucks as I am??

Have to get them from Mopar (Lenses are just stupid money) or get the offshore Dorman ones that don't last a season.

I have found a similar light that TruckLite makes that should fit fairly well.

I am going to order a set today,

Freightliner does not have them so it will be a couple of weeks before they arrive.

They are a sealed throwaway unit.

When they get here I will test for fitment and looks, will post results. They are just a whisker smaller so will fit inside of the recessed light area.

They will sell for about $5. 00 per side!!!!! Beats paying $20. 00 or so for a lens alone.

Here is the print. .

They will not stand constant duty, have two split Dorman ones on the truck right now.

If you have your lights on for many miles as I do the Dormans will crack.

I put l. e. d bulbs in mine and it stopped the meltdown of the entire assembly.

That's a good idea.

If mine were Ok right now I would change over.

I had already cut the bulbs back to a 194 (2 candlepower) instead of the 168 (3 candlepower) that Dodge calls for in that application.

I didn't think of the LED bulbs. Have some hanging on a rack in the showroom to boot... ...

Got the plate lights put on yesterday, nice affordable solution.

Had to drill out the mounting holes in the new lights to 1/4" to make them work. Use the old connector from the factory plate lights and join it to the Truck Lite harness.

Cheap, cheap fix.

I picked mine up here,

Miniature Wedge Base Bulbs - Super Bright LEDs

There are several l. e. d replacements to chose from, some are brighter than others. I used the WLED-x5 bulbs which are not very bright in the housings. I need to look into another set of bulbs. Original replacement bulb number is 168.

When i replaced the bumper couple years ago it came with reasonable lamp housings. I installed LED Bulbs to avoid the heat and short duty of incandescent, and they work great. I got mine from Autolumination (my go to bulb place). LED is definitely the way to go. The technology has gone so far in the past 20 years and the price falls steadily. With two young kids even the christmas candles have bright LED bulbs!
