Tires in Alaska?

Thanks, TDR Staff

Blew trailer a tire yesterday

Just back from 2 week road trip 2300 miles (pics)

Where in Alaska might I get a good set of new tires for my 3500? I am in Tok, Alaska right now but will be in both the Fairbanks and Anchorage areas in the next few weeks. It looks like I will be needing some new tires all round as the drive tires are probably just about ready and the fronts only have about 5K left so I figure to get the new ones here. I am not sure just which brand I should get. I have Maaxis on there now but feel their mileage is less than adequate. Anyone in this area have any suggestions? You can answer me on this forum.

Tires

Utah Willie,

I had the rear seals go out on my truck and had help finding a repair facility from the guys in Anchorage like

JR2 (rathert@gci.net) who is listed in the travel companion of TDR. Believe it or not I went to Big O tires as they have an almost complete repair shop. The guys in Anchorage are really helpful. I guess there was a get together of the guys in Fairbanks this week end. Sorry we didn't make it. We're heading out on Wed for Fairbanks area. We're in Denali now and are moving to the Riley Nat'l Park camp this morning. We're right now at the Rainbow RV park in Denali and they have WiFi. If you come here, get a place near the office as if you're down the hill the RV's block their internet. Good luck on finding your tires.

Tires in Alaska

Speedo, I am looking for 215 85 R16 E's, MS tread. Price is less important than service life and quality. I am in Fairbanks right now... at the Chena Marina RV Park and will be for a few days. I will be checking around town and was just wondering if someone here had a favorite place for tires on their speed dial.

The next question is where is a hot spot for catching and keeping trout in this area? My lady is about to have a fish fit if I don't get her out to drown some lures. :-laf

Utah Willie,

I use ALASKA TIRE SERVICE in Anchorage at 2330 E. 88th Ave. There is a map to their place in the Anchorage yellow pages. They are a family owned small shop and will treat you fairly. Phone no. is 907-344-6288.

AMERICAN TIRE & AUTO in Anchorage is another good choice.

My experience with Johnson Tire Service has been less than desirable. Good at flim-flam, deception and high prices to those less knowledgable. They have nice big stores(6 stores) but got that way from overcharging.

If you can wait until you get back to Canada KAL TIRE is a top notch place to buy tires and get excellent service. They are all over Canada including Whitehorse, Dawson Creek, Prince George etc.

Good luck.

Gone!! I left there and went to Denali for two nights. Couldn't see much because of the weather. :{ Stayed at the RV park right in town, across from the Princess Hotel. Am currently at the Alaska Trails in Wasilla and heading out tomorrow for Homer or ??? Sorry to miss you.
