probably wouldn't be a good idea.
If you do a search for DW (death wobble) it seems that a lot of the times DW is cured(?) by replacing 8 ply tires with 10 ply tires.
There are other issues surrounding DW but the 8 ply issue seems to crop up alot.
The brand also might have something to do with it. just remember there is alot of weight over the front end with the Cummins hangin' out there.

If your looking at a larger tire than factory it may be marginally adequate, for instance a 285/70 8 ply is very close to a 265/70 10 ply in terms of capacity. I still would not run an 8 ply regardless due to the lower pressure ratings. An 8 Ply tire will feel squirmy compared to A 10 ply and wear quicker.
If your on a budget check around at your local stores and ask if there are any sales coming up. Sometimes different tire manufacturers will offer decent rebates.

Ive ran good quality 8ply tires for years and never had a problem, really depends how you use your truck and the quality of tire. Ive seen lots of D rated BFGs have dw issues but never had a dw issue with Yokohama or Toyos, and ive seen DW with E rated tires so its not a black and white case .
