I think possible im rough on tires but can't quite pin point where?

My truck is a 2006 dodge 2500 with the work truck package... so where talking 17" wheels & tires on the gray wheels. Same tires that every other 06 was sold with but I read many guys getting 60K+ miles out of them. Right now im at 16K miles and it looks like I might see 25K give or take with these new tires.

The truck pulls a trailer that is roughly 6-7K pounds 5 days a week. No burnouts or wild turning.

Is it the constant trailer use that wears at these tires? I have the same issues with every truck I own. I have 2 F-350's that we pull trailers with and 1 that is just a estimator truck. All get no more than 20-25K out of each set of tires and we are talking name brand top of the line tires. We try our best to rotate our tires on all the trucks every 7-10K miles which turns out to be every other oil change.

What can I do to keep tires longer? The air pressure is checked almost daily and kept at the suggested pressure Via the side wall's specification.

I'm no expert on tire wear but your frequent towing is going to wear your tires down twice as fast. Those tires get hot back there. And the hotter the tire, the higher the wear rate. I'd probably rotate every 3 to 4 thousand miles instead of 7 to 10. You might see a little bit more wear out of them.

Yes this truck in perticular the 2006 2500 is the most even wearing that I have seen to date with all my trucks. Could be because its new and the alignment is great. Never had a truck go this far without needing an alignment.

You didn't mention tire brand.

My '06 2500 4x2 has Michelins with an open differential.

At 61000 miles, I rotated them because the front tires were starting to show high/low spots in the tread.

Had the same type Michelins on the '99 2500 4x2 I had previously had and NEVER rotated the tires. Went 115K on one set. This truck had the LSD.

But then - my driving is probably 90% highway & lightly loaded.

Plus I do the poor-boy style of truing the tread surface on occassion at the dragstrip! Maybe that's the trick?

Posi Issues ???

I have very rapid tire wear on my 96 4X4. I get approximately 20,000-25,000 on a set. :{ I've had the front end aligned several times. I went through two sets of Coopers, 20,000 mi each and now I have Dunlops. I just noticed that my rear tires seem to be wearing rapidly and it appears that my positraction may be the culprit. #@$%! The fronts don't seem to be doing badly. I'm going to service the rear diff and see if it helps. I do notice strange noises coming from the rear while backing out of my driveway. Could be dragging the tires around turns... .

My 02 used to eat tires, still on original set of Generals on the 05 just over 60,000 and still plenty of tread 50% empty rotated every oil change 7,500 mi
