Has anyone tried the Michelin LTX M/S LT265-75r16 and are they worth the $600. 00 plus price they want for them?

I have the 245 version. Load range E. I love them. I saved $ by getting blemished tires. Cost about $120 per tire. Same warranty. I can't see what is blemished.

My father has the Michelin 265/75/16's "MS" on his '96. He upgraded from the stock 245 Goodyear Wranglers. I have done the same but with the "AS". They are both OEM tires available when ordering an '01. The "MS" version is the upgrade of the two and has the raised outline lettering.

Both sets were bought as "take offs" from guys upgrading to larger tires. You should be able to buy a set of four as "take offs" or slightly used for a lot less than $600. 00.

I would think in the $200-$300 range plus mounting and balancing. Go talk to your local tire shop that does a lot of aftermarket tire & wheel upgrades for the local dealers in your area and watch the TDR online classifieds.

As far as performance, we both have seen an upgrade in handeling and performance over our stock 245 Wranglers.

I replaced my worn out tires with Michelin's and the ride is a lot quieter, seems to handle nicer but I lost about 2 MPG, from about 20-21 to 18+/-. Not sure why this happened. The previous tires were a very agressive M&S tread. I went to LTX A/T's 265/75/16 and cannot understand the lose in milage. Other than that I was very pleased with the tires.

My mileage also went down when I went to the 235x85-16s, unitl I slowed down. #ad
If you go the same speedometer speed as before, your truck is going faster down the road. Boy does it take more fuel to push our 6klb, ultra aerodynamic beasties down the road. I dropped the speedo down to 66/67 to go the old 70 & the mileage came back up. Also, they are a bunch heavier than the old tires & it takes more fuel to accelerate them @ the same rate as before.

Those of you that are getting lower mileage with the larger tires, keep in mind that your speedo is off and if you have not re-calibrated the speedo it will seem as if you are getting much worse mileage.

In pacing my truck with a stock one as well as mileage markers, I have found that I need to add approximately 10% to my mileage calculation.

Example, if I go 450 miles on a tank, I need to add 45 miles (10%) to that figure before calculating my mpg, as I have actually travelled 495 miles but the speedo only measures 450.

CAW440- The Michelins are twice the tire that the Goodyears are. Try the above mentioned sources for "takeoffs", or go to Price Club/Costco. They seem to have the best deal on tires I've found.

I have been using Michelin tires for the last 25 years with absolutely no problems. They are more expensive than some of the other brands, but in my opinion are worth every penny. On my 88 Olds (98) I had 110,000 K on set of Michelins before I replaced them with another set of Michelins. On the 92 Ram I replaced the original All Season Michelin tires at 9,000 K with set of Michelin XPS and now have approximately 64,000 K on them and they will probably last for another 15,000 - 24,000 K. For my use the Michelin have proved to be an excellent tire and considering the reliability and mileage that I get out of them they are not that expensive.

While we are on the Mich LTX tire subject, I'm looking to put 285-75-16 on a set of 16x8 Alcoa Classics for the spring/summer/fall months, and the stockers with snow tires on for the nasty salty winter months.
For the Alcoa's, I really like the Michelin LTX's, but haven't seen em in 285's. I've also looked at a set of Yokohama's Geolanders, but don't know their wear/noise charactoristics. They seem plenty agressive for a summer tire. Furthermore, I'm one of those guys who can't just go to a tire place and say "put a set of tires on it". I gotta see em. If they don't lateral rain grooves... I won't buy em. This throws the likes of a BFG A/T out the window. I've also been looking at a set of Goodyear ATS's, but have never had luck with GY's in terms of wear. SO... Like everyone else here, I'm looking for a rugged tire to last forever...

Any suggestions. . ??

I want to go to a taller tire on a 2500 2WD. I looked at the 265- 75 -16 Has anyone done much towing with this size? I am conserned about the side wall flex,causeing the rearend to sway under load . this tire has a Max presure around 60psi where the 245s I have now is 80psi. Thanks for any ideas.
