I have been eyeing them as the seem to be the only other option in 295/75 other than the bfgs I have no but I have never found any to look at in person:rolleyes:

Ted

thanks for the reply Ted, What tires are you running, I'm looking for a tire that is good in the winter, I see that you don't live that far from me, I'm in Hamlin

I am running 295/75 16 BFG ATko

They are good in the snow, rain, etc but are wearing at this point.

i like the size but whish something existed that was a little taller and a little narrower for the winter but alas I am in search of a tire that does not exist:rolleyes:

I may move to a set of 315 mtrs of a wide offset wheel for the winter and run the bfgs in the summer

Are you looking for tires for the 3500 or the 2500?

Ted

I think a 255 85 16 would be pretty close in diameter with a narrower profile. Selection in that size is a bit limited though

I've has real good luck with the Goodyear ATS LT285/75R16 . I ahve no lift and the size fits perfect, no rubs. Tried the 305's, they rubbed and they rated only 3000# each. I got about 45,000 miles out of them without rotating them. Threw 'em in the shed, they still maybe have 10k left on 'em. I liked the load limit of 3305# also. I've hauled 4 tons of dirt around with 'em. Great in rain, fair in snow, fair in mud, GREAT on the highway and the handle well. Low noise.

http://www.goodyeartires.com/catalog/products/WRLATSSize.html A set should be had for <$600 on sale w/o mounting & balancing.

I now have some goodyear MTRs. I wanted something with some traction, these have it, and they look really good. Same size, same load limit. Paid $750 for the set. they work GREAT in snow, great in rain, not as good on the highway as the AT/s, not bad for noise, but if the aggressive tread is considered, very quiet. I expect to get 35k out of them. Some have done worse, others better.

Zainman, I have some Nitto's on order hope to have them by next week. We have had snow in Mich all ready I can let you know. I bought 265/75-16E as any tire height increase would not allow me to park at work!

I had Cooper Discoverer AT's in the 285/75/16 size on my old truck and I loved em. Good traction at the boat launch and on snow and ice. Quiet and they wore very well. If they had a 17 they would be on my new truck.

I have the Nittos and am VERY happy. They are quiet, and appear after about 6000 miles to be wearing considerably well... .

They have great balance too... even at 100 :D

I would highly recommend them.

Ted , the tires are for the 2500, now that there are more replies to this, I think I'm more confused than anything else. I need a tire that will wear well, since we do tow a 30' trailer in the summer, and I want one that will be good in winter, this is my wifes truck, and she has to drive about 40 miles 1 way to work, I can't justify spending 600 - 700 on a set of tires that wont last 1 year, The LTX's have 35k on them and are worn out! I've heard of people getting great life from these tires, I wish I knew their secret

I have the Nitto's in the 285/75 size and I am extremely happy with them. However they are not staying on the truck for winter. That is not to say I don't think they would be good in the snow, as I think the tread pattern would be a good snow tire, but I am looking to put on some narrower tires for winter use.

As bighammer mentioned a narrower tire is better in the snow than a wider one. Currently I am looking for a set or 235/85. I think the smaller footprint will cut down to the pavement better than the larger 285's. Personally I would not go wider than 265's if you are concerned about snowy traction.

Ryan,

A 255/85 16 is about the same diameter as your 285s but narrower and tends to come in aggressive treads that are good in the winter. swamper Truxus, bfg MTkm, and different coopers. They are a great size in the snow.

i used to run 255 bfg mt's year round on two different trucks. They were good tires and look great on a 6. 5 inch rim

Ted

Oh, just another point about Towing.

I tow a 30' racecar trailer with my Nittos across the country for the most part, anywhere from Michigan to Florida.

I was also very happy with the towing charactoristics. I thought a tall tire like this MIGHT have been a mistake, but they did well. I only used them for 1 trip between Detroit Michigan and Memphis Tennesee... . but they did great.

They have a very thick sidewall and don't fold at all.

They also have a very FLAT tread allowing the use of these larger sizes on STOCK rims... .

No regrets here.

A little off the point, but does anyone know why BFG doesn't make the 255/85 in the AT configuration? I had the MT's, but don't need something that aggressive all year. BTW, I'm finally going to have the 295's installed. The oem 265 Michelins have gone 82,000 plus. There still is tread left, but not enough to do much good in the snow.
