I'm really sitting on the fence right now about the purchase of a new to me truck. I'm leaning towards an 08' Resistol Mega cab. I know that there are those here who love their trucks, and apparently several who hate them. I primarily use my truck for work which includes pulling various trailers, and alot of driving in mixed city/hwy. I'm a general contractor, so Im usually always carrying something with me. I also need room for my 3 babies, so the Mega cab is a must. So basically I'm just wanting opinions, good, bad, whatever on this truck for general use.

There were a few reported problems when the ISB6. 7 was newly introduced. Many of the 2007. 5 models received updated software and a few had turbochargers and diesel particulate filters replaced.

The 2008s have been essentially trouble free. I've not heard a single reported problem in a 2009.

My 2008 cab and chassis which meets 2007, not 2010 emission standards, has been trouble free for 43,000 miles.

Nobody loves the added emissions hardware on the new trucks but it is here to stay. IMO Cummins has done a superior job of meeting the new emission standards while producing great running trucks.

If you want one and are willing to spend the money I'd say buy it and enjoy it.

Something tells me the emissions stuff wouldn't be there for long. How's your '06 on fuel? I doubt a 6. 7L will get the same mpg. Pulling mine does great, but empty it's a little shy in the mpg dept.

I don't know how much you're paying for it , but you may want to compare the cost with a brand new 09 with a full warranty. Dealers are making great deals plus the incentives are good. If you do go with an 09, call Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID.

Whichever way you go, make sure it's made in Saltillo, Mexico as they are better then the Saint Louis made. I believe most, if not all, Heavy Duty Dodge with a Cummins are assembled in Mexico now.

Love my 09

Lonestar,

I've been hanging around this forum for the last two years (along with the dieselplace and cummins forum). In that two years, I saw a lot of traffic reagrding regen problems and various other issues with the 2007. 5 -6. 7 and with the Duramax. In my opinion, this is to be expected. Not only was it a new engine application for the Cummins, but it was built to pass the 2010 Tier 2 Bin 5 requirement, while all of it's competitors (Ford 6. 4 and GM 6. 6) were not.

I am currently the owner of a 2009 Megacab 6. 7 and I couldn't be happier with the truck. It has incredible power, an amazing transmission and is built like a tank. Although I only have 3000 miles on it, it has not had a single problem.

My philosophy when I purchased the truck was this - Cummins has been in the diesel business since 1919 - they have an enormous amount of engines that are used every day in machinery and tractor-trailer setups. This, in my opinion gives them a huge advantage over competitors - and allows them to continuously and effectively update all of the requirements for their engines.

My advice - go get your Megacab, you won't look back.

The 6. 7 has been in industrial applications for some time. My brother

worked for FEDEX and their plane mules had 6. 7's in them. He said

they run full time at 2000 rpm and are bullet proof. Have fun and

enjoy!! I am.
