Are you guy running a mystery switch to force lockup? And also are you locking in first then banging the gears? I have a stock converter. Would it hold up? And how much performace would I gain?

My line pressure is bumped and I have some vb mods.

Also the truck has a egr and I live in ca so I am guessing that it is a ca truck

I doubt the transmission will hold up if done allot, locked shifts are known for breaking stuff at high power levels, so try 1,2,3,4 then lock it up, It's your transmission!

With the power you have it will work GREAT, for a while... ...

You will thrash the transmission, don't do it. I doubt you can break anything but it is possible. Performance gain will slight, maybe a second in the quarter or a little less. A little more power is a lot cheaper than broken transmission parts.

locked or unlocked

I have read where some never or ALL MOST never lock up there converter, but when the guys that I saw at the dyno shot out in Louisville locked up their converter to get the best numbers. Now it may be quicker to run in fluid coupling and for sure easer on the transmission when shifting, the question is do you get every last lb of torque when you need it in fluid coupling after the truck is moving?

No you don't, not after the convertor is in fluid coupling. You lose anywhere from 30% on a stock convertor to somewhere around 10% for the aftermarket convertors. If you need that extra little bit I would suggest adding power to the engine instead of thrashing the transmission.

Thanks for the advice as that is exactly what I am going to do save the transmission and get a truck that does not require adding hp to get the torque to the ground and sell the auto while it is still working. JimK
