The hose from the turbo to the aftercooler has blown off twice.

The first time I was driving. This time my wife was driving & I was'nt along to fix it & she was'nt real thrilled about laying out in the rain on Willamette Pass to put the hose back on. The truck only pulls about 33# of boost. I check the clamps at every oil change. Can't figure out why this is happening. Anybody else have this problem? What can I do to prevent this from happening again?

Any help or ideas is appreciated. THANX

Pull all of the boots off and clean them really good, alcohol or something like that. Spray them with some hairspray and then put the boots back on, torque appropriately and you should be golden. I have been upwards of mid 40's and pull over 34 daily, no problems whatsoever here.

Try cleaning both connections with denatuered alcohol, you might have a little dirt or oily condition on the surfaces letting them slip apart.

Hair Spray

The hair spray idea is one from the good old motorcycle days when we were young:{ We used it on the handlebar grips. It allows the grip to slide on and then the stuff sets up like glue.

I'm the king of blown connector hoses. Runnin' 90 psi doesn't help:eek: I recently had tabs welded onto the pipes to allow me to wire everything together.

I would add that blowing a hose is hard on your turbo as it tends to overspeed.

I too am looking for a solution, mine have blown four times, always when towing a long grade and usually just when you want to pass a F or C. When I pulled it off,(always the one closest to turbo)it appears to have lost the rubber inside as you can see cords and not smooth rubber. I am planning on replacing it, any suggestions on a better one than the Dodge dealer?

I had the same problem blowing the hose off at the turbo.

Take off the aluminum elbow and sand or file the groove for the clamp deeper making a sharp edge were the hose slips on. This works for me up to 44 lb.

Also make sure you're getting the clamps tight enough, suggest using a torque wrench at least once to get a feel. The recommended 70 in/lbs is much more than many would tighten by feel alone since the torque is spread over the circumference of the tube.

Boots blowing off

Some time back someone complained about oil in the very hose you all are having problems with. There seems to be some blow-by of oil through the turbo which works its way down to you boots. Once the get oily the will be difficult to keep on at higher boost. Cleaning the pipe and boot ought to solve everyones problem.

I don't adhere to the 70 in lbs. I tighten my clamps till the are tight just like my radiator hoses.
finally, alcohol will dry out the rubber and causes it to decompose by way of dry-rot. It may not happen while you own your vehicle but somebody down the road will suffer from improper application of alcohol.

New Boots and Clamps

Where would you get some better hooses and clamps. I think the SPA kit looks cool but it is also way overpriced for just looks. i want something functional (good looking too won't hurt though). I'm not a cheap person, but sometimes I like to watch my spending

New Hoses

When looking for a replacement hose, make sure it is a heavy one and most importantly, fibar reinforced. Try to find a hump hose if possible. They have the steel rings on them to prevent expansion. If the hose can expand it will work it's way out from under the clamps. The SPA hoses are very high quality, some of the best stuff out there.

One more thing, try using standard hose clamps. You can get two clamps in the place of one. With two screw mechanisms to tighten I feel you can get more clamping force then with a single wide one. Those narrow clamps just bite harder. I like to reverse the direction of the second clamp. One pulling one way and the second pulling the opposite direction. Turn the clamps so the screw mechanism is behind the pipe if possible and you will be left with a clean looking stainless steel band visible.

THANX for all the help!!!

My wife says she has some "HAIRSPRAY FROM HELL THAT WILL STAND UP TO HURRICANE FORCE WINDS ', so I figure a little alky & some of her good stuff will take 32# of boost! Thanks to all.

I haven't tried it but I bet if you put a 1" band of adhesive backed sandpaper wrapped around the connections and then put the rubber boots back over the pipe and tighten down the clamps it might work pretty good.

I don't think I'd want to put anything around the intake tubes that could get sucked in if a hose pops off. Stick with the hair spray, it works excellent.
