Archived To much oil consumption

For the past couple of months i am having a lot of oil loss and a lot of smoke coming out of my breather, it has made a mess out of my engine. i went to dodge and they had me drive for a week to do an oil consumption rate. i noticed a least one quart of oil loss in one week. i took it back to dodge today and they are telling me that there is no problem with my truck and to have good day. i only drove the truck less than 300 mile this past week, also there was oil in my breather(which was cleaned last week). i almost lost it at the dealer. so i wanted to know if i should just go to cummins or try another dealer? If i go to cummins and they say there is a problem will dodge do the work. My truck only has 54,000 on it, will my 100,000 warranty cover this problem. i feel that i shouldn't have to pay for it. if anyone has any ideas please let me know . thanks for your time guys.

You do not have enough miles on that truck for a significant blow-by problem and 1qt per week is way too much oil to loose with only 300 miles of travel. I do not go through 1qt in 4000 miles.



You will develop black fluid rather quickly in the catch bottle, that is expected. If you are worried about the mess, just extend the hose down another foot and get rid of the bottle.



Your warranty is through Dodge only. You can take it to a Cummins dealer, but they will not honor your warranty. If you are really worried about warranty, I would find another dealer.



You will probably get better results if you contact D/C at a higher level than the dealer. There are customer service numbers out there (I know that they have been posted here before, if you do a search for them under the "Discussion Forums" button on the top of the screen.

Is there a significant amount of oil on the ground where you park? Where has all this oil gone? Through the engine? It's not old enough to be showing that kind of wear. I'd pull the charge air cooler hose and see if it's clean inside. My $. 02

I notice some oil on the ground but most stayed in the breather. Is it possible that the oil is burnig off? i have noticed a lot of smoke coming out of the breather. I know some is normal, but i i think there is to much. after the engine heats up or a long drive it tends to get worst. Could this be a bad oil ring on the piston?

what are you running for oil weight? if the oil is too thin wouldnt it spit oil out the tube?... just a thought

I'm running Mobil delvac 1 5 weight. i am switching back to amsoil 15w for the summer.
