Honestly, I would look into a 5. 9 CR instead. I have a buddy that works at the local dodge dealer and he told me that since the common rail first came out in 03, he replaced 8 engine's. In the first four month's of the 6. 7, he had replaced 5 engine's.

Basically if you plan on keeping it for a while go with the 5. 9.

If the truck is going to be leased or you don't plan on keeping it too long, then go for it. I could be wrong... ... . ?

These are just my . 02

I completely agree with Hubert, 5. 9 all the way, especially in a six speed. If you REALLY want an auto, the new six speed is a nice one, but you have to take the 6. 7.

I fourth the suggestion that you look for a 5. 9! I sold my '01. 5 this summer and jumped into a DEC 12th, '06 build date '07, 5. 9 6spd and I just LOVE IT!!!
My '01. 5 was a 2wd auto that I spent alot of money to DTT the trans. I was NEVER satisfied with the trans. It hung up between 2nd and third the whole time I had it.
Anyhow... my 5. 9 4x4 is the best truck I have ever driven.
If you are looking into the years of 5. 9's with the G-56, you need to buy one that was built in November or December to get the higher 6th gear ratio.

They kept calling back dropped the price almost 9k but still didn;t want to deal anymore. I think i will just keep what i got. Almost paid off. Then i can put money into mods or find a qaudcab. Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated merry christmas

DONT TRADE !!!!!

Sell it out right. RIght now is the end on the year. Kind of like houses around here anyways, vehicles are not selling well and it is a buyers market. I just sold my 2000 sport. Found a Mega Cab that had 36K across the window. I offered 28. Look around and find out the trade in value on the truck before for make your offer. Heven forbid you have to trade it in, but if you do you will know what they eill give YOU for it. He took it as they " had not sold a vehicle in 4 days" (dealership). Put the $$$ down from selling it outright and have a respectable payment. BTW the dealer was going to give me ALOMST 8 thousand for MY truck, I sold it for $14500. I mention this to give you some sort of idea of the mark up they are putting on these trucks. Then again, the salesman told me "they had 34K in it". On my test drive, I found the trade in paperwork in the compartment under the front center seat. They came down REAL QUICK when I showed it to him and it stated they gave him $29K :-laf

I appreciate all the imput. Definitely going to wait a while. Sell mine outright and find a deal... Thanks agian Happy new year

If possible could you give a hint of cause of failure of the 8 engines at your friends Dodge bussiness. ? Could it be fuel dillution "making oil". ?

This can wipe a crankshaft out fast if it goes undetected. My dealer changes our oil at 3K. Worry at times because the oil never goes down compared to my 1st gener 5. 9. Not a fraction.

Thanks,

Chuck

My oil never moves either (change every 7500). I do check it whenever I get fuel so I try to keep a watch on it. Scotty
