What about this automated Biodiesel Machine???

I have a 07 5. 9 cummings common rail truck.

Would it be possible to design a processor that.....

1. is completely automated, or VERRY easy to operate, perhaps you have to test the oil you have, and set a dial...

2. will work on fryer oil from fast food joints

3. could fit in the back of a short bed truck.

... requiring 110 volt power when not running at night or what ever to keep the process going is ok.

Think its feasible?

I'm thinking of somthing that has seperate tanks for your additives, and mixes. . when its ready. . you open a valve and fill up your regular tank. then stop off at a fryer joint and fill it up(aprox 35 gallons). It possible?

I think you should do a lot more reading , your questions are leaving a lot of basic info out , you need to know at least a little before you try to get your wants/desires out there .
Nobody is making WVO , they are collecting it .
There is no automated way to collect .
There are processors out there that are close to what you say , but still have to collect , fill hoppers ect , but the problem is the more of an automated machine you get [ about $6,000-8,000 ] to start , so then wheres the savings when you spend $10,000 and still have to collect waste oil , also by the the time you get that big , you will have the problem of finding that much WVO .
Then the main aspect of processing , is settling out the glycerin , that mean it can not be mobile , needs to sit still to settle .
Toyota has demonstrated a prototype of something like this , but if it shows up , it will cost even more , it took up all the space in the truck .
Then there is those that believe in using a 2 tank system & burning WVO / SVO , but then your stuck again , there have been some on both sides of that , burning vegi oil with out taking out the glycerin has cause many problems , and more so with the common rail fuel systems .
Heres a link to a do it yourself site .

I have done my reading. . and ok, while the title should read, wvo to biodiesel processors. .

Is there a different way to seperate out the glycerin with out settling? DO you have a link to the toyota info? I was just wondering if it was possible.

The auto machines that sell right now are $8000 plus $1000 or so start up costs. . and pickup isn't free even if the oil you get is(time= money). . it would take 50,000 miles for the system to pay for itself at $4 a gallon. at 8 dollars a gallon(don't think this isn't comming, it is) it will be around 25,000 miles or 1. 5 years.

if I went out and bought a low mileage 1990 ram duelly, and could stuff the processor in the back, under a camper top, could it be done. adding water as needed, wvol. . and the rest of the additives.

I'd love to haul my trailer $1 a gallon, even 2 a gallon. RIght now its pretty easy to get your hands on the oil, in 5 years. . probley more difficult...

how much of the $8000 systems is profit? If the home systems are selling like hotcakes right now.

Was just thinking that will all the progress made over the last couple years, guys like that CJhall on here and others. . take it one step futher

I have been running commercially processed bio , and have been wanting to put together a processor , have thought about putting in trailer , but again , it needs to sit while settling .
I do not have a link to the Toyota , but a google search should work , but there would be no usable info , just a press release / not avalable .
Have you got agreements with oil suppliers ? used cooking or new .
For waste your talking about small bis / independent [ franchises are mostly contracted out ] , then a small place may get you 5-20 gals a week , I just say / ask , because I'm doing the same , with fuel pricing , many more will be doing also , all these shops are already getting rid of , they do not want to make there life more work so you need to set it up so it is like they have it now and be reliable , then what about cold weather .
I have seen a lot of posts from those doing all kinds of stuff , but will not at this point jump on there band wagons , because I do not see the studies showing longevity , some have been doing for a while , but thats not enough for me to bet my eng / fuel system on , I spend a lot of time looking into alt fuel , energy before doing , and have been running into too many issues with the unprocessed oils to do that at this time , but if I can build a processor for a couple hundred bucks , and less hassle than making sure that all the conditions are right to run on WVO / SVO , 2 tank , heat ect , and still have carbon buildup issues ect .
I'm just saying that let the others that are more willing to bet there eng, fuel systems show more proof .

If you get the right oil(dehydrogenated) all you have to do is keep it warm, and filter the chunks out, and your truck will burn it. I have a friend that runs two tanks, one is diesel(stock tank) and the other is a 60 gallon aux. He strains the oil using whole house filters, and then just puts it in the aux tank. Then he has several heat exchangers, and solenoids. Starts on the diesel, and when the truck is at operating temp switches over. It is a slick setup, I think he has around $2000 in it. Issues he has had

1. Make sure you have the mack daddy pump(he uses the FASS standalone 180)

2. Filter filter. He filters it down to 5 micron before he puts it in his truck.
