Well, I just returned from a 4400 mile RV trip, towing my fiver to South Dakota and back. Came over the Rockies on the return trip, and really put the Cummins to the test. Pulling my 12K fiver over some tough terrain I did not baby her. Ironically I found myself paying more attention to the Boost gauge then the EGT. I did push the EGT's to 1450* often, and did not let up on her till the top of the grade. The Cummins did not miss a beat. I used the cruise control often, and loved it. The rapid response of the cruise, along with the Cummins power kept me crusin' for hours. If you tow heavy, the cruise is the only way to go on long trips.
The surprise is that when I returned home yesterday and tucked the fiver away in the driveway, she was purring like a kitten. Today I went out for a short errand. I started up and got to the end of the block, and she was screaming like a little girl on Halloween. I pulled into a dealer by my house (and the work place of a TDR member 4X4BOB) and had him look at it. It sounds like the pilot bearing is shot! I can't get it in till next monday, so I won't get the offical answer til then, but it's a good bet that's the culprit. There is just under 15K on the clock, and the the clutch surface feel solid.
I will post more when I get the final determination... ... .
How do you say thank heaven for the 7-70 warranty.....
