On December 27th, 133 years ago, Clessie Cummins was born and our automotive world would never be the same once he began to envision “a day when everyone’s cars, not just trucks, would be propelled by strong, economical, cool-running, reliable Diesels”.

In the world of 1888, our industries were graced by “a generation that believed anything was possible if you just wanted to think and work hard enough…a generation that included Henry Ford, the Wright Brothers, and Charlie Nash; a generation who tended to achieve their own advanced degrees without benefit of formal education, a generation of people who were admired and respected for such accomplishments”.

Quotes above are by Bill Millard (in his chapter on page 28: "MR. CUMMINS More about Clessie Cummins’ Early Days."

As a TDR member, you can learn more Cummins history and about Mr. Cummins and others who created and deeply influenced the modern-day diesel truck industry. Log in to your TDR account and read and/or download the recently updated TDR publication: A Dodge/Cummins Turbo Diesel Historical Perspective
