Competition Today was a great day...

Today was a great day for diesels. It started yesterday at Diesel Innovations for the pre-party to the race. I would have to say the highlight for yesterday would be the burnout compition. HERE (click here) is a link to a pic of some of the rubber, STILL SMOKING. One of the best burnout's I have EVER seen. HERE (click here) is one of my favorite pics, it's Nowel's truck doing the a burnout, after the sun was setting.



Today at the track, too many good things happen to pic a single favorite. The list was long, and so I'll simply highlight some of them.



1) Seeing Jeff Garmon break into the 9's.

2) Seeing Joe (CC12v) get a 10. 8

3) Seeing Nowel's truck win the event after Joe had engine trouble

4) Watching the boys from Georgia, get to talk to the boys from Washington

5) Watching everybody who knew him remember Nowel



Big thanks to David at DI for putting the event together. Thanks for all who made the drive. Also thanks to Nick at Powerhouse Diesel for buying me lunch, his truck is simply great looking, and performing. And finally to my diesel daddy Nowel for the great weather, and oppurnity to come together.

It was also great to see the "Red Rocket" with HOSS at the wheel take first place in the event as well. I'm sure he'd agree, it was worth the drive.



Although, he was confused looking around seeing all these people wearing shorts on December 12th. Temperatures in the upper 70's made for the perfect day.

I am having a tough time posting on our local board so here it is. Thanks for taking go care of HOSS and his pit crew it sounds like they all had a great time.

I am so happy for the guys that made the trip down to Texas. .

I am at the hotel on my way back from Houston and on dial-up. I am not even going to try to look at the photo's now.



Scott - yeah, after Matt broke his transmission doing a burnout at DI on Satuday, Darren breaks his at the track on Sunday, I loose a hub/bearing on my truck Saturday on my way to DI(David Lott's crew had me back on the street in about two hours. ) Preston sticking a spark plug in his tire at the track, we needed something to go good.



Jeff made a 9. 97 @136 pass. Of course without certification and a license he had to go on the trailer but who cared. :-laf We were all happy because this was the last shot to get it. Tracks are closed at home until spring and the season's goal was 9's on #2. No water, factory intercooler.



We had a great time. Wish I could remember everyone I met (and I wasn't drinking very much either). I think Nowel was pleased.



There were so many really nice rides there all weekend. Joe Hellman's 12v is bad bad bad. Greg (Comp) has one sweet ride. Snow White is 1st class all the way. David has done a nice job with it. I think next year it's gonna get real stupid. :-laf

Caravan..

Well, i just wished Hoss and the Boys a safe trip back home to Washington from San Antonio at 10:45 pm. . we caravaned back from the halfway point between here and Houston and thanked them for coming out to play down here in Texas Oo. . . Have a safe trip back home!

Thanks guys for the reports for us stuck up here going to PRI. You didn't miss much, it wasn't the same show. Made me really wish I was there.

I am glad I came down to watch. It was well worth the driving time to watch. I came expecting to see an all Cummins race, but there were several Power Strokes... . 7. 3's..... didn't see any 6. 0's.



One thing I am still trippin' on is how quite a few of the guys racing would spool up before they even staged on the line. I know they could have just idled up and pre-staged and waited for the other guy to pre-stage and then start to spool up and stage the second set of lights at the same time. I seen some guys (not describing trucks) would have their truck spooled up for 15-20 seconds and sometimes 25 seconds at a time before the tree fell. Now I think that those trannys aren't going to last very long doing that, don't care what has been done to the transmission. Those trannys are just setting there building up so much heat. I would hope that those guys can practice a better tree staging after this weekend... it looked like the first time for a few of them.

As someone with experience racing a turbo Buick against other gassers it is very nessecary to spool up and then bump the car in unless you have a stage right or a transmission brake . A non-turbo car will stage quick on you and start the tree before you have boost up if you completely stage before building any boost. It's too late once the tree starts down. I usually pre-stage and wait until the other guy is at least pre-staged before starting to build any boost and bumping into the staged lights myself.

A non-turbo car will stage quick on you and start the tree before you have boost up if you completely stage before building any boost. It's too late once the tree starts down. That one truck, that was green took longer then 6 seconds to spool, it did take about 15-20, but he had some HUGE twins.

I understand that... ... that green truck you guys are talking about wasn't a truck I was talking about. I know that truck takes a while to spool up... you could listen and tell.

But the reason I brought that up is because I would hate for someone to do that to their truck if it really wasn't necessary... . I guess that is their truck and not mine so I better just keep my mouth shut LOL... . , but I was meaning wanting to help.





Most important thing here is that I am glad everyone has made it back safe and sound.

Justin, I think I know what you were talking about. There were some that would spool WAY before the pre-staged. You are correct there, not needed. I figured the drivers were new to racing and didn't know where the lights were. You are correct though, the longer you stall that converter against the brake, the more heat you are building and quickly too. The more efficient the converter, the more heat. I actually am amazed they last as long as they do and don't cook themselves more often.
