word game sentance... Let's have some fun..

Can you do an Iron Cross?

As promised, an update on the Vicks vaporub treatment for the dreaded toe jam curse. Honest, it's working! The remaining nail, about 50%, is now pink in color, and the stuff under it is rapidly moving forward with the incoming nail growth. The whole toe area is now a normal pink color, and there is no sign of the old crud at the toe tip. I just knew you'd all be waiting to hear the results. :D :D

Been trying this stuff too - I've had the problem for over 30 years, doc recommended against conventional pill treatment due to stress on the liver it creates. Been using the Vicks for about 2 weeks - toenails LOOK better, but will have to wait until more time passes to be sure...

Ron,

Thanks for the tip. I am going to give it a try too. My doc also didn't prescribe the meds for the fungus because of the potential side effects; i. e. liver. Glad I can use the TDR for med advice:-laf

Ron,

Make sure you use it for a little while after it looks like it is all cleared up. You need to kill ALL of it or it will be back, and it will be mad!!! :)

toe nail fungus blues

After reading the post a couple of weeks ago, I decided to try the vapo rub. No change yet but the burning under the nails has subsided. If the vapo rub doesn't work, I'll try the antifreeze.

There's a fungus amoung us!

Yeah, this is for real. I'm trying it too but it is too soon to tell if it is working. But I'm encouraged by the positive results of Ol Ron. If it works on him, it will work on anyone!:D

Ron, how long have you been using it? Do you apply it twice a day?

I'm in my fourth week. Yes, I apply it twice daily, and the application still gives me a slight burning sensation. The toe looks great. About 85 % back to normal color and absolutely no re-appearing gray funky stuff at all. Milehiscott has good advice I think. Keep putting it on till you have full normal nail length and appearance. I'll keep you all posted.

I dont believe I'm posting to this

Hey guys , there's another product to try. Look in the horse section of a farm & ranch store. There's a product called Hoof Flex made by Absorbine. It smells nasty and stains the dead part of the toenail brown. I figger if it will cure fungus on horses in stables mabe it will work inside my shoes. Seems to be doing the job.

I just hope this post doesn't start another ''oil war'' :D

Well, unfortunately, after 3 months of applying twice a day I'm giving up on Vapo rub. I think it helped initially but now all it does is make my feet greasy. That fungus is tough to get rid of. Next ,I'll try antifreeze and after that the horse fungus cure. I'd like to hear from others how they did with Vapo rub. I went through 4 jars of it.

Paul,

Didn't work for me. I'm about ready to put the barrel of the 12 gauge Remington 870 Magnum Express on the toenail and pull the trigger. At least that would heal up. ;)

Rusty, I'm sorry it didn't work for you either.

I got that fungus initially swimming in high school. I used a product made by Rexall drugs called FungiRex... It worked and I had no more outbreaks of athletes foot or nail fungus for years. Then, 17 months of combat duty solved that. I now have 8 of 10 toe nails affected.

The stuff the Service used to rid your feet from rot was killer in more ways then one. Yes, it did kill your fungus but it ended up putting me in the hospital for 3 weeks with highly elevated liver counts and my urine turning brown. Apparently, my kidneys were going into failure too. They made me drink a quart of mango juice 6 times daily. I can't stand the stuff now. My liver enzymes are still not right after 22 years. Kinda puts a damper on scotch too. :( So,... I drive a CTD for kicks.

My understanding is that the prescription pills do the same thing. For me, not a good choice. I'm going to try the ethylene glycol method and see what results it yields. I had a Sargent in the motor pool that swore he never used anything the service gave you for foot problems and substituted EG instead. He died from lung cancer because his one passion was Camels.

I 'll try using antifreeze starting tomorrow and keep you guys posted. Eg is highly toxic and also causes liver disease if swallowed. No... I'm not going to drink it, just apply it to the nails.

The ol' lady uses Lotrimin on her snags. It's for athlete's foot but it works for the toenail fungus. You have to apply it every night and your toenail will grow in clean. I started to get it and the Lotrimin stopped it. Since it's a clear liquid it doesn't make a mess and leave your toes all greasy. It's a bit pricey though.
