For you guys running the Frantz or other bypass 'toilet paper' type filters... .

What kind of extended intervals are you changing oil at??

How often are you changing the factory filter??

Are these filters worth it??

Well - we covered this already - but I change My TP element at about 2500 miles or so - no particular reason, just like to do it at about the midpoint of my oil usage. I change my full-flow filter every oil change - 5-7000 miles, depending on severity of truck use during that time...

"Is it worth it?"

Shucks, that's like asking if Amsoils "worth it" - depends on how well you've been "sold" on any particular product... Obviously, *I* figure the TP filter - or ANY decent bypass filter is worth it, just as the synthetics lovers will swear THEIR money is well spent... :p ;) :D

Change it?

Dang, I knew that case of Charmin on the shelf was for something.

I suppose there's going to be some debate on this one, but since you're not flowing everything through it, I'd change it less often, but I'd also change the stock filter at greater intervals because it is there. The element is cheap, but not the quart of fluid that goes with it. Catch-22.

In ole' George Walkers last words (to me), he said... "run it til the housing isn't too hot any more". Meaning - that roll is full of I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER and isn't flowing oil good! Craig

Thanks for the info guys.

So, I'm guessing it'd be OK to dump oil and TP filter every 15,000 mi, and change factory filter every 7500 mi. ?

Running Rotella and 95% highway miles.

Just trying to get some extended run time on dino oil without hurtin' the Cummins.

I have my Frantz being sent from Barry as we speak. :D

Only way to be certain you wont hurt anything is to pull a sample and have it tested.

Many guys do 10-15K miles on an oil change.

I'm a little old fashioned. I will only go to the max the owners manual states. I'll probibally do the TP at half that interval.

Barry is out of town at the moment. I think he said that he was leaving for Arizona and he didn't mention a return date.

Is'nt wonderfull to be missed!!! I got back is last night with a 36 Airstream Integrity 5er just ahead of the snow storm. I noticed that a number of folks have tried to send me a PM but I need to shovel out my box. Wished I knew how. I only have a few of the Frantz filers left and they are mainly the big ones. The fastest way to get ahold of me is to call my toll free 1 888 279 9168. I have not even had a chance to answer my emails... ... .
