Last week, while attending a family reunion, we went to Toledo to visit the Libby Glass outlet store, in the warehouse district. Now…Toledo, Ohio has never been at the top of my wish book of places to visit, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I found.
We ate lunch at the Spaghetti Warehouse and I was thrilled with the ambience. The restaurant was in an old warehouse and had an excellent decor, including an indoor exhibit of a trolley car that was filled with dining tables. All of the booth type tables were constructed with old iron bed parts and the tables were covered with red and white gingham table clothes. Our waitress was a true Italian Momma, who hovered over us and made sure that we ate our hearts out. Needless to say, I ended up tipping her more than 20%, which is extremely rare for me. The food was better than excellent and of course of Italian fare.
After lunch we headed to a couple of antique shops and discovered that the owner of one shop is the talkative granddaughter of the man who once owned most of the warehouse district, including the building in which the Spaghetti Warehouse is located. She told us that the Toledo Mud Hens were building a new stadium on land that her grandpa owned and suggested that we swing by and take a look, which we did.
Our time was limited, so we were unable to do much more in Toledo, but I did find out that there are many things to do and see at the home of the Mud Hens and I’m ready to go back and see more.
