My #4 injector line (from the fuel rail to the injector) cracked at the injector end yesterday. This is on my '06 at 127K. It failed in Jan '10, probably 10k miles ago. Part (listed above) is $22. 20 at Cummins and they might warranty it.

When this part fails, it'll leave you stranded. The failure is so common, the older guy at the Cummins/Bridgeway service center knew the part # when i put the box on the counter. Said they "sell a lot of them".

I had this Jumper fuel line fail on me as well on my 05 at 74000 mi. I know what you mean all too well about everything stinking of fuel. On the plus side you got some rust protection... Lol.

How many people have had these jumers fail? I wonder ifI should keep one under my seat???

Preventative maintenance goes a long way. If you are going to buy a new line change it when you have the time, tools and place rather than when it goes because it will NEVER break at a convenient time or place. When I had my engine out for a rebuild I change all 6 lines because they were original and # 2-6 all change up the the newer style. The screw that goes through the isolator and clamp now has a larger flanged head on it.

It's just like the belt. People will buy a spare because they know that it's getting near the time to change it. If that's the case buy a new one, change it NOW and carry the old one as a spare for yourself or someone stranded.

By the time I was just about used to the smell after mine sprayed my engine the smell went away---I almost worried something else had happened. I tried Simple Green then power washed the engine--no good. I even left the hood up in the garage over night with a fan blowing----all that did is make my garage stink!!!!!!!

My #4 line failed as well, at 4:30 a. m. headed out on a 1,400 mile trip .

I now carry a full set of 6 replacement lines just in case.

I had my #4 fail this past Friday, oddly seven days and seven hours after having my injectors replaced. My current line does not have the insulator on it at all, so I may have to track a new bolt down. Appears the new part number is 5289447.

Is replacing this line as straight forward as it appears?

It is not year specific from what I've seen. My 97 lost #4 at around 250K my son's 03 lost number 4 at 180K. My 06 lost #4 at 300K a buddy lost #4 on his 06 last week at 150K. Number 4 is the problem child from what I've found the bolt loosens and the line vibrates till the line work hardens is my guess. Yes I carry a spare and check to make sure the line clamp is tight at every oil change.

The issue is specific to the 5.9 Common Rails and it is specific to #4. I have seen failures of other lines they are few. While I have seen VP engines and P-pump engines have injector line failures, they are few. The 6.7's use different lines and have not had the same issue.

If I owned a 5.9 CR, I'd have a #4 line and a wrench in the glove box.
