Hi all well I finally joined the group so this is my first posting. I have been suspecting lift pump problems for a few weeks now based on what I've read on this site. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge installed yet (it is on its way) but I have noticed surging in power at WOT even though I changed the fuel filter about 2000 miles ago. I went ahead and changed it out a couple days ago and the surging seemed to go away. The old filter didn't look all that filthy and there wern't that many miles on it so my thought was maybe it just made the lift pump weakness show itself? So this morning I saw my check engine light was on and I had 5 codes showup. P1693, P1690, P0380, P0382, P0230. I have a '01 2500 with cone intake and dbox. (I promise I will set up my . sig right away). So based on all of this do you guys think the LP is dead or on its way? Also, any suggestions on good shops in denver (I have an extended warranty that said they cover it if that was the prob).

HMMMmmm - strange bunch of erreors...



0230 = fuel pump primary circuit

0380 = preheater/glowplug circuit

0382 = EGR

1690 = wastegte solenoid



I'd bet on a bad ground or poor plug contact at the ECM...
 
I had looked them up and thought it was a strange bunch but I thought I saw somewhere that some have had LP problems which made a lot of seemingly unrelated error codes come up. It is just wierd that all of a sudden these popped up this morning for no apparent reason.

Is it safe to keep driving???

Thanks for the responses guys but now I got even more codes this morning inaddition to the ones still popping up from last week. This morning I got the following and there is the most worrysome is the 0370 and the 0230 since they are the fuel pumps (which if they are bad my extended warranty should spring for them) . So heres what I got:



3/22/04

P0122 (M) Throttle Position Sensor Voltage Low Throttle position sensor input below the acceptable

voltage range.



P0122 (M) Accelerator Position Sensor (APPS)

Signal Voltage Too Low

APPS voltage input below the minimum acceptable

voltage.



P0341 (M) Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor

Signal

Problem with voltage signal from CMP.



P0370 Fuel Injection Pump Speed/Position

Sensor Sig Lost

Problem caused by internal fuel injection pump failure.



P0219 Crankshaft Position Sensor

Overspeed Signal

Engine has exceeded rpm limits.





Seems like just about every sensor is screaming at me yet it seems to be driving ok. I haven't been flooring it much since these codes sprang up so haven't had too much opportunity to notice if it is surging under load still.

I'll say it again - bad ground, poor plug connection into the ECM - or maybe a bad ECM - the ECM and it's function IS the common denominator here... ;)
 
I agree with Gary that the ECM connector is the problem. The ECM supplies a 5-volt supply to the MAP, Oil Pressure, Engine Speed Sensor, and Camshaft Position Sensor, from pin 10 on the connector. If the connector has corroded from moisture the 5-volt supply will be low from the poor electrical connection.



Here is a picture of the connector from the wiring harness to the ECM. Pin 10 is in the top, right hand corner. I would clean and use silicon grease to keep water out.
 
I would remove your Superchips programmer first. Set your program back to stock and drive it a few days. The codes may be coming from the programmer. After 3 or 4 days of driving, check for codes again, without using the Superchip. You can check for codes using the key switch and the odometer.

Ditto the above. Pull the super chips, and disconnect and clean the ECM connection, grease it with dielectric grease and make sure you plug it back in real good. Take a trip to auto zone to clear the codes (unless you have a scanner) and drive for at least a week checking your codes each day. If all is well, try putting the super chips back on. and do the same thing.
 
Your codes wont disappear immediately. You will have to drive it for a while, and most codes will reset themselves, IF that is what the problem was. Leave your Superchips off for a while, like a week, and check your codes again. I am not saying this is your problem, just an idea.
 
If you leave both negative battery cables off for about an hour, it will reset your codes. You also have to recalibrate the apps by turning the key to run, and pushing the peddle all the way to the floor and releasing it.

This does not work on our trucks. The codes stay in the ECU/PCU until they are either cleared by an OBDII, or the "X" number of Run Starts. This will only take out the check engine light.
 
well found out two things on Saturday with some help from Sticks. One my LP is dead, two one of my battery grounds was a little loose. My guess is a combination of these two things set all the codes off. Now to drop my truck off to get that warranteed LP... heck, maybe even a VP?

WHOOOOHOOO!

So I took my truck to a dealer this week and although it took them a few days I got a new lift pump AND... VP injection pump! All under the DC 100k warranty! With all the complaints about the lift pump issuses I didn't know DC warrantied them for 100K miles! I assume most know this is covered???

A few odd things the tech told me was that most of the trucks that come in there have the two companion codes I mentioned plus the 230 code(I think). He acted like all the codes I had didn't mean anything and that his drb scanner was the only way to read the "real" codes.

Anyway thanks for the suggestions, regardless of what the dealership folks said, I got my new pumps for free so I'm stoked!



Maybe its my imagination or the fact i've been without my truck for 3 days but it seems like it has more power now.
