Is the tone ring the same as the silencer ring before the turbo? Will removing the ring before the turbo make any real difference in response? thanks

No, not the same thing. The tone ring is on the crankshaft for the crankshaft sensor pickup. The silencer ring is in the inlet of the turbo and kills the whistle. There is no increase in performance, just an increase in the fun factor. :-laf

Anybody ever see a decrease in performance? Smooth air travel = less noise/ rough air flow = more noise. I was thinking about this today when I pulled along side a pooper duty and heard his turbo, sure sounds nice. Are the rings re-installable later?

Why is it. the powerstrokes sound so COOL!

their turbo sounds like it is chopping meat! chirp,chirp,chirp,chirp, in the exhaust.

I have never been able to listen to my truck, I am always driving it.

WISH I HAD A FORD!!! ..... ;) :rolleyes::-laf:-laf:-laf

Yes, you can reinstall the silencer ring. It is held in place by a snap ring.

But you won't want to... ... ... ... :-laf:-laf

Actually removing the silencer will increase airflow... There are 3 casting holes around the inducer, which are ported to the secondary vanes on the compressor wheel. BD calls this their "extended tip technology" on super 'b' turbos. and if me talking to you doesn't convince you. I have ran my turbo with and without the ring and i run 40-45 p. s. i. from my stock 273,000 mile turbo. When the ring is in my turbo barks, when it is out, it doesn't... ... as much. I also rebuild larger KTA-19 liter cummins engines, and industrial equipment companies will also install these rings to decrease turbo noise at full power, much like dodge did. IF CUMMINS DOESN'T INSTALL THEM FROM THE FACTORY, THEY DO NOT INCREASE PERFORMANCE. ;)

I'll have to pop it out and listen to the new music. Hey, Highmileage94... Do you remember "Ghosttown in the Glen"?

I'm not that old, but the remains of rocky glen park is still there. I also know the owners somewhat well... . There are a few organizations trying to re-open The park. I was recently pulled over on rocky glen road for "Modification of emission control devices, Lack of heat shield of modified exhaust, lack of muffler on modified exhaust. " :-laf Damn Police. #@$%!

If it's re-installable, then it's coming out! If I can "always put it back" then it should come out to at least try it. You are probably right, if dodge did it then it's not helpful.

When I had my '01, pulling the silencer ring out made alot more turbo whine. I pulled it out of my '07, 5. 9 and the so called "air guides" out of the connector hose and you barely hear the turbo. What gives??
