It does not seem to be marked on the factory tow package receiver... . but reading the manual- is it correct that you can have 1200 lbs tongue weight without a weight distribution hitch? The tech at the dealer was sure this was correct- just like to see those things clearly spelled out. I'm not planning on towing more than a 7500lb trailer but just want to be sure for future reference.

The manual does state 10-12% of a 10k trailer with no mention of weight distribution hitches. Anyone know anything different?

1200 is the number I know to be max w/o weight distribution. Hitch is 10,000 pull. If you need more (and I will) you've got to change the hitch. Reese is not out yet with a tag-along hitch. Maybe others are...

The hitch that comes with the towing package is a Class IV? And, that's rated for 10k and 750 lbs. tongue? Just making sure.

Manual say you can tow 10000 lbs with that hitch with up to 12% tongue weight. For more weight they recommend fifth wheel or gooseneck.

The hitch is rated for 12,000 pounds pull and the tongue weight is limited to 1,200 pounds. According to DC it is considered a Class IV. The early information in the manual was wrong (?) and an addendum was issued later on by DC. See the trailer towing info on their website. It also specifies the use of an exhuast brake for towing over 10,000 pounds with a manual equipped 3500. They don't say anything about the 2500. :confused: Sometimes I get so confused. :{

Yup, I will send it to you in a PDF file. Also see the Dodge website under trailer towing guide. It gives the updated factory hitch trailer and tongue weight rating as well.

It was included in an addendum that came with the Owner's Manual that DC sent me.

I'm sure you'll find that the hitch mfg will recommend the use of a wd hitch at anything over 50% of the max rating on the hitch. This is really for your safety, if you get up to near the max without the wd hitch then there will be considerable flex in the receiver. Been there-Done that, it can sure make a hand ful!!Oo.

RanchHand or RoughNeck ratings?

Anyone know what the ratings are for some of the aftermarket rear bumpers? I have been assuming they had a higher rating than the stock IV hitch, but not sure. I know most work trucks I see hauling equipment have them.
