Some time ago, I saw an article in the "Highways" magazine or somewhere where you could use a bathroom scale to weigh your tongue weight. Anybody know the formula? Any physics majors out there? Been way too long since I had physics.

It seems to me to be better, safer, and more accurate to go to a truck scale. Weight the truck alone, and then the truck and trailer combo. If you use a CAT scale, you can even get the weights for the truck front axle, rear axle, and trailer axles seperately. $7. 00. If you have a trailer light enough to use a bathroom scale, you probably don't need to know the weight anyway.

I haven't used a scale, but what I've done is measure the height of the hitch while the trailer is empty, then measure again when it is loaded. On my last load I think the hitch was 2" lower after we loaded a 6k lb engine on the trailer. The trailer pulled fine.

I don't know how much weight is on the hitch to lower it 2", but it works for me.

Here it is

That method is described on the Draw-Tite web site under Towing Facts.
