I'm going to buy a soft tonneau cover for my 03 3500 CTD. I want something inexspensive for the time being. I'm looking at the Lund Genesis tonneau. Has anyone used this cover or heard anything about them? Or does anyone have any suggestions. I dont want to spend a ton of money right now, because the cover will only be temporary.

Thanks,

Kevin McD.

Ck out the Two Guys Show on Speed chnl (if you can) they installed the one like Geno's has. The rails just clamp on and you could probably sell it to one of us after you thru with it. It has bows and rolls up. Didnt get cost nor did I look at the price in Genos. Sounds like what you want.

They also had a inexpensive plow and anti-rust/corrosion unit they installed on a GMC. The plow uses a front hitch then a "U" shaped insert and the plow just hangs on it. One person install/remove. Probably have more info on the web site for them or speedchannel.

I bought and installed the one Geno's sells (Literider) after seeing it on the Two Guys garage web site www.twoguysgarage.com . You can download the instructions for it (in pdf format) to check out how it mounts, how it's constructed, and how it operates from www.literider.com .

I really like it and it is very easy and convenient to use. The only concern I have is that the rails hang inside the bed. If I need a bucketload of dirt or mulch or gravel dumped into the bed I think I may take the rails off first so the weight of the stuff falling doesn't damage them or the truck. However, the advantage of the rails mounting to the inside wall of the bed is that the stake holes are still accessible and I can still use the tiedowns I installed from my '01. All in all it was the best design I saw when I was looking.

I ordered the factory cover and it is great. It fits well, and is easy to take on and off. Goes through the car wash and everything.

Badunit,

You are so right. Another problem is if you pull a 5th wheel the pinbox could hit the rail (and crush it) in a tight turn. I was about to buy one when I discovered this.

Fireman

I have the Mopar tonneau (not the one from the factory) and I really like it. I had the same thought as Fireman and will take mine off when pulling the fiver. It will fit nicely under the trailer if I want to take it along and is very easy to install (clamp on). The cover that you order from the dealer has a nicer material (like a convertable top) than the vinyl one that comes from the factory. It is a very nice cover in my opinion.

I have a friend who has a "K Cover" on his Ford. It's a hinged, hard cover that folds forward when needed, is more secure than a fabric cover and is easily removable. I'm probably going to order one for my Dodge.

Even if you're not interested in this kind of cover, the web site is worth a visit. It's one of the better web sites I've seen. Very informative, lots of pics and install instructions. Also, I emailed a question on a Friday evening and had a reply Sunday evening.
