I have an 8' bed & would like a cover primarily for mileage improvements (125 hwy miles a day) I need the bed length to haul our huge MC when we go camping & I have a pair of Labs that act like they've been shot/beaten if they don't get to ride into to town when I run errands.

Any suggestions?

it sounds like you will be rolling it up quite a bit. I would get one of the easy access covers like the ones that Geno's sells or the extang RT (I think that is the one). They open and close very fast. Mine takes a couple of minutes to get it right.

They are a little more expensive than the standard cover but they sure are great when you need bed access a lot. And it sounds like your dogs will demand it!

FWIW I have an extang cover (not the quick access) and I'm very happy with quality, materials, etc...

I've been very pleased w/ the Literider sold by Geno's. Quick to open/close (one person needs maybe 15-20 seconds) even in the cold. Looks good, and holding up well. Don't bother buying the more expensive model this manufacturer also offers... the base model sold by Geno's is just fine, and a lot cheaper.

I have the Access cover on my truck and love it. Don't be disappointed when you don't see much of a milage increase. Mine may have gone up slightly but it was so little I didn't see it. :{

I'm looking at the lifetime warranty rollup models, so far I've found the Extang RT for $319 shipped. Anyone know of a better deal?

Have no input on this other than to say:

You will not see a mileage increase by putting the cover on. It's just aerodynamics folks... they don't help by creating less drag. If anything they add drag by adding another point of seperation (and therefore drag) to the airflow.

right, the cover is nice for keeping stuff dry, but your mileage won't improve anything noticable. Don't buy it if you only want it for mileage.

I've had to put them inside to get them to the vet before, It aint happening again. They like to look over your shoulders & are so excited they can't help but drool... ... ... ... the windows had to be scraped before windexing & my shirt was nasty.

drool

Sounds like it's time to swap them out for a couple of Border Collies. :-laf :-laf :-laf

Unfortunately, I fell pray to the "it's really toooo cold to ride in the topper" line. Now that riding in the front has become EXPECTED, I get the "please don't beat me - again" or the "he always abuses me" looks when it's time to go into the back.

Hi there,

You should look into a shell of some kind with large side sliding windows. I have dogs myself and I cannot stress enough the importance of good ventilation!!!!!!!!!!Especially in the summer!!!I work for a store that sells Shell/Lids. You might be supprised at how many people think an animal can survive under a tonneau cover or a shell with little pop out windows. You might contact your vet... ask about heat stroke. VERY few animals survive.

forget the tonneau and when your goin down the highway just leave the tailgate down or get one of those tailgate nets and when you got the dogs just put the gate up

net is even worse for mileage than is tonneau. A properly shaped canopy or just the plain old bed w/ the tailgate UP is the best.

One way I cured canine back-seat driving was to start training them with the slider open—too many good smells coming over the cab to bother washing Dad's ears. I've had up to 5 medium-sized dogs in cab at one time for several hours trips!! Drive-thrus can be interesting, though ;)

I wound up with an Advance cover & it worked great.

Now, "Jake" my old lab has been laid to rest & my wife picked up a rowdy little dog & she insist I have to get a Camper cover to transport him :(

Did the in the cab thing as well,i have 2 american bulldogs that can drool the whole inside of the truck, especislly when there a little people food or stangers walking near there truck. I got tired of cleaning the "BULLSNOT" off my interior windows. Went with the shell, works well, still have to clean the shell windows once in a while)tinted) but no drool/hair in the cab,as well i have the slider/fold down window on the shell for more airflow into the back for those hot days, even have a piece of plywood across the rails with a sleeping bag for them to lie down on---(looking so proud). I had a tonneu for a while but it just didn"t work for me and the larger dogs, hell they like it so much they jump in the back even when i"m just tinkering with the truck in the garage, hoping for a ride in the mighty cummins. :D :D :D
