 Gentlemen: I have a `98 12-valve and my grid heater hot wire is hot all the time. I had to take it off the stud and insulate it until I can find out what is going on. Put new alt. on today and was charging the dead batteries and no juice was going to the batts, but going to the G/Her`s air horn was too hot to put your hand on. Any idea`s on what s happening?- solenoids for the heater? TIA Need a fix in a hurry

One of the grid heater relays has stuck in the closed position. This will keep power applied to the heaters at all times. Use a test light and find which relay has stuck in the closed position.

I had one do that a few years ago on my first gen.

Is just one wire hot (powered), or both? Each relay works independently to close and provide power to it's heater. The PCM provides the grounds that activate the relays when the key is in the run position when different parameters are met. If only one wire is getting power then that relay is stuck closed (if it is still hot with one of the small wires disconnected). If it is getting power with the key off then ?????

Do you have a manual with a wire diagram?
