Too Much Glare On EV Gauges. Any Cures?

I just installed new Isspro EV gauges. Much easier to see at night now.

But during daylight. I get so much glare on the lenses. That I barely can see them. I get glare from the side window and rear window. Heck I can even see my ugly reflection in them. They are mounted on the pillar.

I was wondering is there some anti glare product out there?

My other option maybe little hoods around the top and side.

Or window tint?

I have the same problem, except that I am dash mounted.



I know that you can get anti reflective/anti glare coatings that you can apply yourself, but I have not been able to find any yet.

Hey, get some sunglasses, solve the glare and if you get a good pair they will make you look better in your CTD... ... .

Sun glasses don't do a thing. It just darkens everything. Glare still there.

POLARIZED sunglasses. They have special glare-reducing characteristics --nothing to do with UVa and UVb and all that jazz.



And window tint. My tint is very light, but effective.

As Wade said, POLARIZED. Camera buffs probably have a polarizing filter for their Nikons. Cuts glare. Like if you're taking a picture of some guppies in a fish tank and the light's behind you the polarizing filter cuts out the reflection from the glass. Also, if you put one piece of polarized glass on top of another and rotate them until the polarization of one is at 90 degrees to the other, you won't be able to see thru them at all. Interesting? Physics 101 - Sound, Heat & Light? Whatever. I just remembered this thread started out about your gauges, sorry.



Hey, maybe you could SuperGlue one of those camera filters over the face of the gauge.

I used to work on azimuth indicators for F16's. They have a non-glare coating on the face. One day a face was really scratched and needng replacing so I decided to buff the coating off. It was night and day difference between a coated and non coated display. Sunglasses reduce glare, but it is still there, still effects the display. If I could just find that stuff on those ADI's... I bet the military pays a pretty peny for it though!

Interesting, the issue on the glare on the EV guage faces was first reported over a year ago, and to date there has been no solution found or reported to date. As noted polarizing sunglasses do not work, just make it darker viewing.

Rman: if you can find out what the product is on the ADI's, maybe we can find a commercial equivalent, or locate thru a military 'midnight requisition' source, maybe it has to be applied thru some manufacturering process and cannot be retro fitted? Are the ADI's dome faced like EV guages or flat faced? To my knowledge the problem is most pronounced on the dome faced guages



I have tried thru 3M products, glass coatings, but what they have is more for decorative or architectural effects, frosting etc. I know they make non glare glass for picture/photographs that you would hang on the wall, but that appears to make the glare less but not totally go away. Wonder why Isspro has not tried this?

A solution

Not trying to be a smartass or anything, but there is a solution to this problem. It's called Di-Pricol. Pillar-mounted haven't created these kinds of problems under any conditions. Or at least that's been my experience.

JPope the ADI is a flat faced indicator. The sphere is inside of it and rotates in relation to the earth, but the face of the instrument is flat. Unfortunatly the glass itself is not "repairable" by our standards, we would just order a new coated piece of glass and call it good. I'll dig thru some tech data and perhaps find something, even a manufacturer would be someone to contact to inquire.



Unfortunatly I looked at the properties of that visionclear stuff... it reduces light output 2-3%... not much but still it takes away from whats to be seen.



I'm going to go digging and see what I can find, perhaps I'll contact a glass maker and have them procure some coated glass and have them cut it. I bet I could by it in bulk and then sell it like a group buy thing? I'll get after it.

Rman, thanks for the info on the ADI glass. Thought I remembered what an ADI was and looked like (glass flat), and as it turns out I did!!!!!!



I ordered a can of the visionclear product. I saw the advertised light output reduction that you did, but in my case that is not a problem as at night I have to turn down the guage backlight otherwise it annoys me, will have to see during daylight. I am going to try the product (spare piece of glass first & if OK, then guage faces).



Thinking that if it works, will offer the remainder of the can as a pay it forward item (according the maker covers a large TV screen) and others can try, and see if it works for them. With shipping a can was $27. 50, so maybe several can benefit for less money.

Maybe the vendors of the Isspro guages will buy a can or two, and offer the product when they sell the guages, as some vendors do with painting the guage mounts to match interior colors.

speaking of EV gauges, does anyone have any experience with the EVM gauges? These are the marine style gauges with a white background... . I've heard they have poor night visibilty, which I find hard to believe, at night even the smallest light to me on the cab is annoying (i. e. that damned airbag lgiht!)



I'm thinking of installing those.

I have the evms. No problems at night but right at dusk or dawn when you have just the markers and fog lights on they are kinda difficult to see. In complete darkness or complete sunlight I have no problem seeing them but my windows are tinted pretty dark. I love the way the gauges look though Wouldnt care for any others

My EVs are steering column mounted and I've never noticed a glare problem.



Hope I don't start looking for it now!
