hello im a new guy to the tdr. To my dismay I have got to make a post instead of just reading them. Driving my dodge ctd, heard a loud thump , I got out and didn't see anything, headed home and notice abs and brake lights came on. My speedometer was bouncing sparaticly, brakes started feeling funny. Parked truck at home looked under truck and didn't see anything but it was dark out,went out to have a look the next morning and noticed a big puddle of oil underneath the rear end of the truck, noticed a big dent and rip in gear cover. (pumpkin) What caused this to much hp or to big of tires? What can I do to fix this and what would the best parts to use... . please help

Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. :{ :{ :{ :-{} :-{}

What year is your truck? Sounds like a killer dowel pin failure. Do a search on killer dowel pin or KDP and you'll find tons of information on it. Affects all 12v and earlier trucks and some 98 & 99 24v's.

its a 01 3500

Spider gear shellled a tooth. I have replaced them on other applications without pulling the carrier. I am not sure about yours.

Not a KDP Steve, Rear differential. Gonna have to take it apart to see what is damaged, as far as where to get parts, aftermarket. Factory Dana gears are always good just don't buy them at the dealer. Might as well put a good limited slip in there while it's open or even a detroit locker. Bearings can be had at the local bearing place for the best price.

You said dent and rip in cover was the dent in or out and was the tare in or out . If in road junk If out damage to gear . Makes a big difference . Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY:eek:

it was some thing inside like a gear or some thing. .

Well The ABS light and Speedo are read from the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) Located within the differentail. So That was wiped out by something. Scot sounds like he nailed it. My buddy's V10 lunched a spider and wiped out the ring / pinion / and one carrier bearing cap :eek: He addied up for a new axle assy and tossed in an ARB (I Think) too being he wanted one.

I too think it's the spider gear, if there was a weak link that would be it. Sounds to me like it's time for a costly rebuild :( Mucho money can be saved if you can do your own work, setting up gears is somewhat difficult and time comsuming, but not impossible. It may have taken out more than you want to hear, and I would go through the entire rearend, it will save you in the long run.

thanks for all the post , i toke off the pumpkin cover and i found a pile of little gear pieces . and a broke washer. Pinyin looks to be ok . .

Enterprise Engine Performance wonts $$1700-$$2000 to fix
