Hey fellas,

I think I just goofed. I am changing the oil in my 94 12v and I thought it held 15 qts I have twelve in it right now and noticed it was a litle high on the dipstick will it be okay like this or do I need to drain some.

I've been putting twelve quarts in my truck since day one. 130,000 miles later no problems. I use Shell Rotella T 15w-40 in the gallon bottles. It's just easier to dump three gallons in than trying to leave a quart left over. It won't hurt anything.

As long as it's not foaming, it should be OK to run.

It will however end up going out the breather tube and speckle the tailgate with oil spots.

The voice of experience has spoken. :-laf:

For what it's worth,

We've always ran 13 quarts in dad's 93. He tends to go a long time between changes, so I figure it's better to have more in there to begin with.

12 is probably OK. A TSB was issued that provided a new dipstick to reflect a one quart oil capacity increase to 11 quarts.

The dipstick was kind of pricey so the next time I changed oil, I filed a notch in the edge of the dipstick at the new 11 quart level. I also filed a notch at the "ADD" mark. Filing these notches makes it real easy to see the oil level at a glance and in poor light. Another tip I got from here 6+ years ago...
