Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Too much smoke for city driving

Ok, I've recently installed a new VP-44, rebuilt Bosch injectors with Edge Stage 3 nozzles, new IAT, new aftermarket turbo, and 5" stacks. The VP-44 is not tapped for the Edge Juice w/attitude module yet (warranty issues on the new pump). I run the attitude module on 1. The turbo only gets to 20 psi at WOT (I thought the Edge had boost fooling).



The truck smokes severely under a light load or during moderate acceleration. The smoke thins out after I get to crusining speed. Is all this smoke and soot normal for the given situtation.

I have a similar set up as you and also had the same problem. Do you have 3. 54 gears? I had to move to a smaller turbo (HX40)and still have initial smoke off the line but is way easier to drive. The smarty also helps keep it in gear a little longer so it spends more time in the top end. It was the new revo software and the torque setting #2 that did it. I did lose a little power on the top end but I like being able to drive it in town as well.

First, try a more moderate acceleration curve with your new injectors. I was stomping down on the skinny pedal when I got mine but now I can accelerate with only a slight haze from light to light and keep up with the gassers.



Also, update your sig so we can see how big your new turbo is. Is the Edge MAP sensor splice and the Dodge MAP sensor connection reversed? I did that when I got my Ottomind and Edge EZ. 20 psi seems low, although the guage may just be reading it low. If you put the boost fooler AFTER the ECM, don't you essentially just make yourself a Smoke Switch with the Edge mother board and give yourself a whole bunch of smoke (fuel) just after idle?



Maybe I'm backward. I know I screwed up the order of my Ottomind, Edge EZ and MAP connections and killed every mosquito in a five square block area of my house. I switched them around and it ran perfectly after that. My neighbors loved me again.
