well, since my 275 injectors were not what i expected, i am putting the stock ones back in. But before i do, i took them to desert diesel in tucson. After a day, they called and said they were 700 lbs low on pressure. he said that they should have been 4500lbs. And the spray pattern was o. k. He wanted about $60 each to "shim and rebuild them". Hell i bet i can get new ones for $60. He did say that they were all with in 100 psi of each other. Maybe if i took off the VA box and ran the 275 alone, the mileage would go up. I get 15 empty. Used to be 18. 5 with VA and before the 275's. will 700 lbs low do anything??? rrr

I love my 275s! The most improvement is in the 1,500-2,300 (or so) range. Feels stronger even at part throttle than the stock injectors. My mileage improved as well. A couple days after I installed them I went on a trip and calculated the mileage based on the gallons I burned and the miles driven. I forget the exact number but it was right around 20! The trip computer MPG is off now of course since the 275s flow more than the stock injectors. I'd love to have it recalibrated. There must be a way to do that with the correct OBD computer.

Were you expecting more power out of the 275s? With my PE 3 light box (one of the first adjustable Edge boxes) I'm happy as can be. With the box off there is minimal smoke, and with it on level 3, gobs of power and black smoke off boost then when the turbo spools up moments lager, just a slight haze.

G-Tech Pro 0 to 60 with Edge off: 12 seconds

Level 3: 6. 9 seconds! My clutch is just barely managing the power too (saving up for a South Bend soon).

The bigger injectors sound like fun but the extra cost of the mandatory bigger turbo, SB clutch, 4" exhaust are stuff I can do later on.

For now, towing my boat (6,000 Lbs) with the Edge in level 1 results in both rear tires spinning/squealing in 2nd & 3rd gear.

Plenty of pulling power.

The 275s actually make as much power alone as the Edge box did on level 1 with the stock injectors.

I would try to send the 275 injectors back and get something different. I have not heard too many people having these problems with 275 injectors. $60. 00 each to "re-calibrate" the injectors is too much considering you can buy some new 275 injectors for like 275. 00 for all 6.

I guess there is something to be said for Diesel Dynamics injectors which are pop tested and matched.

Personally, I'd skip 275's and go to DD2 or DD3.

If you tow regularly/heavy, I'd stick with DD2's. DD3's or SuperMentals if you rarely tow, and want lots of get-up-and-GO!

Also, bigger than DD2's, you will end up needing a larger than stock turbo to be safe on EGTs and to really take advantage of the increased fueling.

What about DD1's

I've been a TDR member for almost 6 months now. And I've done lots of research on injectors. What I hear regarding the DD line of injectors is lots of guys recommend DDII's. Many guys run just this and no other performance mods (no new clutches required) and love it. Evidently they are great injectors.

But my question is, very few ever recommend the DDI's. I'd figure they must be manufactured to the same exacting specifications by the DD folks and they definitely provide more HP and Torque than standard 275's, but why do people always skip the DDI's and always recommend the II's?

If the 275's are so popular, DDI's are just another step above them and they are probably manufactured to tighter tolerances as well. So why don't many of those guys who consider or buy 275's go with DDI's?

Curious minds want to know.

CORed,

I think the recommendation to skip DD1 is based on the fact that most guys that buy DD1's end up with DD2 or DD3 few months later. I too started out with DD1's and soon ended up with DD2's. You get used to the power real quickly and the truck no longer feels that strong. Much cheaper to skip the DD1 and go straight to DD2's. Going to DD3's. you'll probably be looking at a new clutch.

Also, I've heard that DD2's actually have lower exhaust temps than DD1's because of the spray pattern.

DD2's don't really smoke any more than DD1's and will add additional 20 rear wheel HP.

Charles is right on. Almost everyone that does any performance enhacing [i. e. BOMBing] quickly finds that a little ain't enough, and they want more, more, MORE..... The reason DD2's are kind of a water mark level if you will, as Charles said, that's about as far as you can reasonably go with a stock clutch or auto transmission. Also, if you tow with your truck, anything larger than DD2's and you very possibly will have EGT problems.

I rarely tow anything other than my dad's 1990 Toyota 4x4 when we go hunting once or twice a year. With both trucks loaded with our gear, I estimate his Toyota weighs about 4000 - 5000 pounds, and with 1000 - 1500 pounds of gear in my truck, that's a total weight of 13 - 14K pounds. Even on perfectly flat ground, with no head wind, towing at 70 MPH my EGTs are between 900 - 1000* constantly. And thats with the Comp on 2x2 or 2x3. Going uphill I easily hit 1200*+.
