Oil filter confusion

Since I just completed the install, and found and what I was missing the HARD way in terms of tools, I decided to compile a list of all the required tools that I needed to do the job.

Maybe it will help those about to embark on it for the first time.

Tools Required:

EGT Probe and Guage Install

-Center Tap

-Mechanics Magnet (Get a SMALL one <5/16")

-Variable Speed Drill

-1/8" Drill Bit for the pilot hole

-5/16" Drill Bit for the Actual Probe Hole

-1/8" NPT TAP (Make SURE you get NPT!!!)

-High Temperature Anti-Seize compound

-8" Crescent Wrench (For those of us without monster toolboxes ;))

-Plastic Zip Straps

-Vaseline to Put on the drill bit to "keep" the metal filings.

-Heat shrink tubing to cover wire connections.

-Soldering Iron and Solder. (I HATE crimp connectors!)

-Wire Strippers.

-Sharp Punch to poke hole through Firewall grommet.

-Black Electrical Tape.

Boost Probe and Guage Install

-1/2" Ratchet.

-1/2" ratchet extension. (the end normally going into the socket fits the test port)

-1 1/16" 1/2 drive socket to insert NEW boost port plug (On 24V only)

-4" Crescent Wrench for the reducer on the test port plug and hose fitting.

(Use smaller if desired, or whatever you manage to squeeze in there. . it's tight!!)

-All of the other "electrical tools" above ie, soldering iron, wire strippers etc...

Pillar Pod Install

-3/16" Drill Bit

-Dremel Tool with Sander bit. . (One of the holes in my pod was SLIGHTLY too small for the guage. . and they mention this could happen in the instructions).

I may have missed a small item or two, but this is at least most of what I had to have to do the installation.

Just a note to CHECK the holes in the pods to make SURE that both guages fit into them. One of the holes in my pod needed the "dremel".

Have fun!

Also, if you want to install the boost gauge source in the intake horn to eliminate any possible pulsing problems, you can use the same tap and bits you used for the EGT Thermocouple install, except you have to remove the intake pipe to drill and tap it. Its easy though, 4 bolts and it comes right off. You can re-use the gasket, ut for the 4 bucks a new one costs, i would just get one of them and replace it anyhow.
