Just a wild thought, but how bout a Tool Pool or library of tools that are not often used?

For example, I just installed new valve springs and the chances of needing the compressor tool again are very low. I really don't care if I never see itagain. If somebody else can use it, and keep passing it on, maybe with e-mail monitoring of it's location, that would be cool. It seems that KDP jigs are moving successfully. Why not other stuff?

Sorry to be so negative

They are? I'm personally about fed up with caretaking a couple of jigs and ready to say screw it. Most folks are very good about using them and getting it to the next guy, but every couple months a jerk gets hold one and won't let loose nor respond to emails or PMs yet continues to post here. Some of the abusers have even been well known members. Right now this has been the case with two jigs for over a month. What ever happened to the Scotty hole saws that were circulating? If they were my tools I wouldn't loan them out until the check clears with a full deposit. If I say any more it will be all *****ed out.

Bighammer, I'm with you on some of those things, I have a spring comressor also that is just sitting there, another one is the DV socket as I have one of those too. Guess I'll just keep that stuff and take it to the truck get togethers incase someone wants to mod stuff there.

The GLTDR has a tool crib going. I think this is best handled by local chapters as opposed to the national group. In the GLTDR tool crib right now we have a pocket g-tech dyno and a 5th gear nut tool. The g-tech was purchased by the club (based on a vote) and the 5th gear tool was donated by me. It's getting off the ground slowly but I think it will be a great program in the long run.

Yes, Ive been

wondering what happened to the hole makers and a few others. Maybe a club-2-club loan might work and then return to club owner.

just another 0. 015$ opinion...

When I did all this stuff to my Cummins I just went ahead and bought the timing kit, 5th gear tools, spring compressor, yada-yada. still less costly than paying to have it all done. I am currently working one NW KDP jig. I have had pretty good luck keeping the jig moving lately. It's out to the last person on the list now and I again have my fingers crossed. Next It's going to a Thanksgiving KDP party in the local area but it will be available after that. I agree with illflem that being the KDP steward can be a Pain In the A. . I won't loan my own tools because I want them when I want them. The community tool idea is a thorny problem because different people value good tools differently.

Bill

Perhaps a $300 deposit for the KDP jig would make it move a little snappier.

Very low - yes, but what happens when a friend wants you to help him change the valve springs and your spring compressor is half way across the country?

When I buy a tool I figure that that is one tool I will never have to buy again and it stays in my tool box.
