Bought me a new black, diamond-plate, deep-well, over-the-rail toolbox for my truck. Now I've got to mount it (no crude remarks, please :rolleyes #ad
. I plan on making some kind of spacer to fit between the tool box and the truck bed sides to raise the box 1-1 1/2 inches (leave the most room possible under the box w/o raising so much that it restricts sight via rearview mirror. My question: I saw a mounting kit a year or so ago for mounting without drilling and bolting it to the bed (kinda like a C clamp), but I can't remember where I saw them. Anyone else ever seen these? Thanks for the help!

Get a set of "pocket-lock's" by Highland. They are tie downs that go in your stake pockets. The mounting block is tapped so that you can unscrew the eyelet. You can use this to bolt your toolbox to. I just put my toolbox on this way, I tried it the other way, but no matter how tight you tighten the clamp, there is going to be movement. This way the toolbox cannot move. When I have to carry long stuff, I just unbolt the tool box and put the eyelets back to use as tie-downs.

TXRam:
I didn't want to drill holes in the bed rails either. I happened across a product in Lowes of all places. It bolts to the bottom of your tool box on either side, and then clamps to the bedrail flanges. No holes required. I wish I could remember the name of the product, anyway; check the truck tool box aisle at the Lowes in your area. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!

Articat - That sounds like a good idea, but that means that it is only held down at one point close to the cab on either side, right? Is it very secure? I am thinking about welding a couple of pieces of square metal tubing (1-1&1/2 inches) together to place between the box and the rails to raise it up a little. I like your idea, but wonder if it will be tight enough to keep my "lift kit" from moving. But . . . now that I think about it, the reason I wanted it higher was to be able to slide more long stuff under it when I needed - may not need to do this if I can easily remove the toolbox!?!?!

Mark, That's the product (I think) that I mentioned I saw before but couldn't remember where. Thanks for the tip!

TX, there is almost no movement since I put a little bit of foam under each corner. Forward and backward it is rock solid. I have an aluminum tube rack welded to the lid and the box is solid enough that I would not hesitate to use it as a tiedown. It is a really deep toolbox, goes almost to the bottom of the bed, so when I need the full length I just pull the toolbox out. I used huge machine screws to mount it and keep a screwdriver in the glove box for quick changes. If your toolbox is wide enough, you will have enough clearance to use the eyelets themeselves to hold it down and you won't need any tools to pull it out.

I have my toolbox mounted with the sames clamps from Lowe's that Mark has, they work really well. The usual foam tape that's used on camper shells/truck caps doesn't last, when you take off the toolbox for whatever reason, you're gonna find the paint all rubbed off... I use strips of heavy duty black vinyl cut from a carpet runner (for house hallways) and it works great. I took my box off last week in preparation for taking the truck to Line-X, and my paint job is still intact ! If you can't find these clamps or there is no Lowe's in your area, let me know, I'll buy a set and mail'em to ya !

TXRam-

It's people like Briar Hopper that make this such a great place. People that go out of there way to help another Rammer; even for something as simple as a little hardware.

I didn't tell you yesterday, but sportbike sent the injectors 2nd day UPS and I did not ask him to.

Went to Lowe's - say they carry them, but didn't have any nor a spot on the shelf for them. Thanks Mark.

Decided to try out Articat's method. Picked up the "Pocket-Locks" today at Autozone. Looks like it will work pretty good. Cut strips of 3/16" rubber floor mat to place under box on either side of stake pocket (keeps box from rattling on pocket-locks and from rubbing off the black paint that I used on the pocket-locks to make them match the spray-in liner). Will do final "bolt down" tomorrow (paint not dry yet).

Briar Hopper - many thanks for the offer. I'll try this first and see what happens. I think it'll work better than I first imagined - the stake pockets are farther away from the corner of the bed than I thought. But I'll keep your offer in mind just in case. #ad

TXRam, you're welcome... sounds like your way will work, let me know how it goes. My toolbox is a funny shape, like a coffin, DeeZee builds 'em that way, so it has to sit back 2-3 inches from the bed front in order for the lid to clear the cab when I raise it.
Annoying, but I love the looks of the box.
BTW, I went to Lowe's today, they were out of those clamps... #ad
I wanted to buy a couple extra sets, cause the kid at Line-X stripped out the socket head bolt on one clamp today trying to get it off. The bolts on them clamps are great about corroding and sticking, so maybe your method is better!
Love my Line-X bedliner! I lucked out, found this dealer up in a little suburb of Cincinnati, and his price was lower than anyone else's, plus he was just an all-around great guy to get acquainted with. I'll post another thread on him.

Mounted it yesterday per my last post. THANKS ARTICAT!!! This works pretty darn good. Like I said - I placed pieces of rubber mat on either side of the pocket-locks so the box rides on these and not the pocket-locks themselves. I have to admit the box looks pretty good in the truck - better than in the garage! #ad

I would definitely recommend this method to anyone that has a box that can be mounted up against the front of the bed (not is you have to mount it away from the front though).

Thanks for everyone's help!!!

Had to see it on my signature! #ad
