I just bought a weatherguard toolbox for my truck and before I put it over the bed rails I was wondering what do put between the bed and the box. I'm not sure if anything comes with the box itself. I know its a truck but I'd like to eliminate as many scratches as possible.
A Mopar toolbox was part of the deal with my 2005... It came with two rubber wedge shaped strips that gave a level, slip proof footing to mount the box on. It also had two reinforcement strips to rivet to the top of the bed corners to keep the bed from deforming or splitting from the weight of the tool box and from using j-hooks to attach the box to the bed.
I cut a piece of rubber mud flap and put between with toolbox and bed rail. Nice rubber cushion and great friction, so the box will not slide. I think I cut mine 2" x 12", but that will vary depending on your box.
With my toolbox I use a foam tape that is about 2" wide by 1/8" thick and put 2 layers of it on the bottom of my tool box ends to protect the paint, you can find it at anystore that installs camper tops or toppers whatever you want to call them.
