I'm thinking about getting an aluminum crossover toolbox for my 3rd gen. The problem is finding one that fits. Some generically claim to fit all fullsize trucks from this year to that, but are only about 70" wide. I put my old one of that size in my 03' but it does'nt cover the bed rails completely, you can still see part of the stake pockets. So those of you with toolboxes, are you using 70" or 73" boxes?

I do not like the one that sit on the bedrails. Had one before and it wrecked the rails with rust and stress cracks. I currently have one that is meant to sit on the floor of the bed, it is attached to my 100gal. L shaped aux. tank with a few welds. Just my . 02 but I like these types better they seem to hold more and don't do any damage to the truck.

Tool Box

I have a low-profile crossover tool box on my 03. It's a Better Built brand name made by Daws Mfg Co. It measures 71 3/4" across the bed and is 20" wide. I like it being low-profile and it is still deep enough for my needs. My dis-likes are even though I like the chrome look, it really reflects the light inside the cab from rear glass when the sun hits it just right. They offered it also in black and I kinda wished I got the black, but I'm planning on having the rear glass tinted darker with 20% tint mainly for this reason. Other than that I like the style of the box. I bought it from Camping World. You can see a partial pic of the tool box in my Readers Rigs Pics.

Truck Trunk by creative industries. It still shows the half the holes on the rails, but I wanted a low profile box with a full width lock.

check with protech.com they will make you what ever you want, they use . 125 aluminum thickest box you can buy. I had them make me one for my truck that does not block view from the rear window,it sits on my trackrac rail system that allows me to slide the box to the rear of the truck. :)

I also prefer the tool box that sits on the floor and is completely inside the bedrails. My box has a single lid with a lock on each side and is about level with the bedrails. When I run my camper, I remove the tool box.
