U-haul

to DrP or not to DrP...NOT!!!

Been looking around at different configurations.

Stumbled acorss Handy Industries tool/tank combo. They have a 30gal and 50 gal configuration.

Has anyone heard of these?

Does anyone have one of these, if so, how do you like it?

TIA

I have the 50 gallon tool tank combo. I'm very happy with the looks and the fit the only drawback is the tool compartment is a liitle shallow, but it works for me. I bought mine at Camping World in Tuscon, if you want you can see them on on their website. http://www.campingworld.com

Otis, thanks for the info.

One additional question, what did you do for fuel transfer since the tank doesn't come with a pump?

TIA, George

I shopped hard for a tool/tank combo. The most bang for the buck out there is the Alum. Diamond plate units from Northern Tool... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . IMHO... ... .....

Barry, those are nice looking units... ... ... ... but I like the fact that the Handy Industries unit has the filler neck inside the toolbox.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but, don't you have to supply somekind of transfer pump for the Northern as well? If so, what did you use and how do you prevent overfilling of the main tank?

TIA

George

George, I have a fuel pump located under the bed that pumps the fuel in to the filler neck of the trucks fuel tank. I turn the pump on and off with a switch inside the cab. I have to be careful not to overfill the main tank, and not to run the aux tank dry as well. I wanted to keep my cost down because I don't keep my trucks for very long. It's probably not the best way of doing it but it works fine for me.

I am currently running a similar set up like Otis has and what I do so I dont overfill is I only transfer when I am 15 minutes from home , that way when I get to the house and if I forgot to shut the trans pump off I will hear it when I shut off the truck, I have the trans pump wired hot all the time. I have read of some members that put a timer in and this would work OK too, I did notice down at the dealers lot on a truck with no bed that the tank has a vent line to atmosphere that I think would work if you tubed it back to the aux tank???Kevin

I am installing a in bed fuel tank and am wanting to fill the main tank with gravity feed. I am having trouble finding an electric shut off valve. I have looked at some ag eq. valves but was told the diesel may attack the rubber seals. Any help would be appreciated.

Shut off valve

I used the solinoid valve for a chev thuck the is used for a 2 tank set up , you end up with an open port but it can easily be pluged, I also thought it would be convenient to run a line off of that port and up to the engine so a guy could have fuel at the flip of a key to fill the open fuel canister when changing filter but that would be a duplication of services so I just plugged it. ... ... ..... I just bought and installed the 90 gal. model from Northern Tools. They gave me a discounted price and I purchased it locally in the San Antonio store. I found that electric valves cost as much as fuel pumps so I purchased a universal pump from Auto Zone and installed it under the bed with a lighted switch on the dash. It works great and will transfer 10 gal. in 15 minutes. It is a great feeling to drive down the road and watch your gas gauge go up. :D

goober, yes my pump reprimes itself no problem. I've run my tank empty once and awhile and never had any trouble... otis

Thanks Otis.

You wouldn't happen to know the make of that pump?

Local shop sells one about the site of a pint of beer for about $50. 00 US.
