Howdy. My best friend is retiring after 50 yes 50 years in aircraft maintenance due to health reasons ( he is 73 years old) He is trying to figure the best way to determine the value of them. He has four roll a ways full of mostly Snap On tools. To the best of my knowledge they are all S. A. E tools. Some are unique to aircraft repair but most are general hand tools. If anybody has any thoughts on what to do please let me know. Steve

P. s for a fellow TDR member and to help my friend I would be willing to haul them a fair distance.

He's really got 2 options, one sell one at a time to whoever he can including e-bay for quick and best results, or hold out for another aircraft mechanic or maybe even a small airport to buy it all at once.

If he's interested in parting out I'd be interested in hearing what he's looking to get in terms of % of retail. Good luck to your buddy!!

You can go to www.snapon.com and punch in the part numbers of the tools to get the latest retail value, of the newest versions. Some of the part numbers might be so old as to not show up, but a quick search through their catalog can net the correct price, etc.

Ebay is a pretty decent value indicator of the used Snap-on market. Some items sell on there for even more than they do off the truck.

I would be interested in a list as well, if you have one available.

If you decide to sell anything via TDR, remember to use the classifieds section and PM's and not post directly in the forums. ;) ;) :D

Hope this helps,

Depending on price, I would be interested in a complete set-up including tool box. If we could work soemthing out, I would have to wait till next spring to pick up.

I'd suggest contacting some of the local airports and flying clubs. Might also look into contacting students attending one of the A&P schools.

I would agree with NVR FNSH, contact a tech school that has an aviation program. Most of these shcools require students to buy their own tools.

The problem with ebay is you almost have to sell each set or piece separate to get full value. I have rarely seen a full box go for the right money.

I would be interested in knowing what he has and what he think he would like to get. PM me and let me know.
