OK Folks I leave Friday to go pick up my truck and was wondering what tools I need to check the F&R Diffs, Trans, and Transfercase for the proper fluid levels. I have to drive about 1500 miles back home and I really don't want a rearend going out and leaving me stranded. Thanks in advance. Steve

Steve,

I would insist that the dealership makes SURE that it is checked before leaving. They should give you a signed check list when you purchase the truck, I would explain why I wanted these items double checked. If they are a reputable dealership they shouldn't have a problem with this.

NOW, to answer your question. I'm not sure about the transmission, but the diffs. require a 3/8" square drive (like a rachet).

OK,

I had to go look.

T-Case allen wrench somewhere around 1/4-3/8"

Trans allen wrench, large, in the neighborhood of 1/2"

These are just questimates from a quick glance under the truck. A rachet and and assortment of large allen wrenches or allen sockets should do it.

Fireman,

Thanks! I have talked to the dealer about this and my salesman said that they were aware of this problem and their mechs are suppose to pay close attention. I'll make sure I have a signed PDI form.

Transmission: 17 mm Allen wrench. Available at Sears

Rear Differential: 3/8 inch socket extension

Consider taking along a few pipe cleaners so you can determine the exact levels.
