My friend Daniel who is not a TDR member YET has a bombed 2001 auto. We just put 275 injectors, TST box, and an HX35-16CM turbo on it and it goes like **** . Problem is it won't go over about 93 mph in overdrive. He had an aftermarket change from 4:11 gears to 3:54. Dealer is dumbfounded (!) but not smart enough to help. It goes up to 3200 rpm in 3rd. Does anyone know if the PCM or ECM uses MPH input to cause defueling at some Top Speed defined by the Almighty?

Jaybo, Performance Diesel has top secret information regarding your inquiry #ad

I'm a little confused as to your performance parameters. You mentioned 3200 rpm's in 3rd. What is the rpm level at the 93 mph max figure in overdrive?

heck at 115, I was still accelerating!

Mine does 110 pretty easily, but soon after that the ECM starts reigning in the fun because I'm approaching redline. At 118 it was pretty much out of steam #ad

I recall some time ago Ted J posting he took his dually 4x4 to 125mph, thanks to his mods and GV overdrive #ad

My 2001 runs up to 115. . then it stops there... the pull that it has over 100 feels like it would hit 135/145... Let me know if you learn how to defeat this Wall...

Mine is totally stock (see signature) and it was still accelerating at 105. The only reason I let out of it was I had 2 dogs (in a crate) and luggage that I was afraid might blow out. I calculated through the transmission ratio, rear diff ratio, and tire diameter that my truck should do about 118, like Vaughn MacKenzie said his did.

A guy in a Jetta was following me but I don't think he could've hung with me if I had nothing in the bed, he didn't stick too close at 105. He might've just been worried about having a dog doing this #ad

Thanks everyone... To answer a few questions,
the truck in question 'hits the wall' at 2600 rpm, about 93 mph. It red lines easily in all lower gears. It occasionally 'shudders' at 50mph (1400 rpm) on hard acceleration almost like rapid repeated on/off of the power, lasting only a second, then resumes acceleration. This problem is not necessarily repeatable and is intermittent. Dan thinks the problem may have been there all along but he only is noticing it now that he is into bombing it. The truck is scheduled to go to the dealer early next week; the dealer now claims to be able to do something about the top speed wall! More later...

Before the two Dodge reflashes, I could hit 100+mph in a driving rain, but since the ECM and PCM reflashes, I have more 'get-up-an-go' from the line, but max out at about 95 mph's.

The most I can run mine up to 115 MPH and that was only once as I think that is a little over the legal speed limit around this part of the country.

Subject: Speed Limit on 2001 Ram Diesels

From: "Mark@TST" <tstproducts@iquest.net>
To: jaybo@pacbell.net

Jay,

There is a speed limiter built into the 2001 Ram that is supposed to cut off
fuel at 112 mph. It must also sense fuel flow in some manner as we've found
with the PowerMax turned to a high setting the speed limit drops a lot.

The way we fix it is to simply disconnect the vss signal wire going to the
Cummins ecm. There is a multiwire connector on the firewall above the fuel
filter that has a white wire with orange stripe. We simply unplug the white
wire with orange stripe and the speed limiter doesn't function. There have
been no adverse affects on local vehicles though California vehiles may give
a fault code.

Let me know.

Mark @ TST

Mark:
Thanks for the info and pardon the delayed reply...
The client, Daniel Allen, (uses your box at my recommendation) tops
out at 92 mph. DC is no help and threaten to void his warranty if
we push harder, we said we don't care about warranties just fix it and
they still won't help. They refuse to ride in the truck over the speed limit! WOW!
Anyway, we cut the wire in question (a #20 White/Org tracer), the
VSS lead between the Anti-lock controller and the PCM and the truck goes like **** ! Trouble is the speedo and odo quit working too! Although there are no MIL's or trouble indications, it must be a felony by now to
disable the odometer... so now it has a switch on it!
Sincerely,
--

Thanks to Mark Chapple:
Clipped the white/orange tracer wire about 2" out of ECM connector pin 43. This kills the VSS signal to the ECM and eliminates top speed shutdown in the 2001. This wire doesn't exist on prior model years.
