Does anyone have one of these creepers used for working on the top side of the engine compartment. Northern item# 630211-2607 . You can step on the ladder and lay your chest on the padded chestboard and reach the back of the engine. It looks like it would work well for the CTD or is it a piece of junk for 180 bucks?

the cheepo from harbor freight seemed to do good with my 295# *** when i did the head gasket on my cummins, i think i paid around $60, it's worth a look for the price

I have the topsider. Worth every cent. Lift pump R&R was a piece of cake with it. Master cylinder still took a beating.

I did check with harbor freight and I would go with it,except I woulld have to modify it because it only goes to 46" . I measured my truck I would need at least 53", and I plan on adding a lift kit. For that price it might be worth it.

Top side creeper

I bought my topside creeper from Eastwood. It ended up being cheaper than northern tool because I got free shipping from Eastwood. I'm only about 140lbs but it worked great when I put the Banks Sidewinder setup on my 87 Ford F-250. I use it alot for changing glow plugs on fords, injectors, injector pumps. The only thing is your arms start to go numb after a while from leaning down on it.

Believe it or not, I used to work for the inventor/developer/manufacturer of those "Topsiders" , they were called "Tuneup Hoists" when we made and sold them in his small plant in Manteca California back in the late 50's after I got out of the Army - that was where I learned to weld. They were designed from different materials then, and looked a bit different than what we see now - but worked the same.

GM finally bought him out, dunno what or whether they ever did with production of the hoists themselves, the inventor was Linus Snyder, long since dead - but was talking with his son Gary - my age now - a few months back, and he says he still holds the original patent on the hoists - surprised GM didn't get that as well...

Gary, small world, I lived in Stockton at the time, the article regarding the design was featured in the Stockton Record, at the time I thought of what many said that in the USA one could Patern anything. DJW
