I just started to get a turbo whine at start up speeds and then it goes away. I have 12k miles and I wondered if this is normal. All help is appreciated. Thanks.
Oh yeah, the Ferds are LOUD! Some kid around here has an '04 F350 CC long bed 4x4 with a 6. 0 PSD, lifted to the sky with 38's. He didn't say what kind of intake, but he has removed the cat and straight-piped it. Otherwise the truck's stock.
You can literally hear his turbo coming or going from 1/4 mile away or more. It is unbeliveably loud. I don't know how long I could drive it like that. Sounds sweet, though. It must be the VGT turbo. I can't wait to see a Cummins with one.
As far as turbo noise on my truck, I think after a while I just heard it more (with the stock airbox) because I was listening for it.
Last weekend I drove 200 miles with the radio off. I find myself doing this more and more. I was only listening to the symphony coming from under the hood and my exhaust
Does it sound more like a roar, than normal turbo whistle? - Could be your cooling fan kicking-in. Only engages up to 20-30MPH 'ish (when it's warm out and/or your air conditioner is on), then assumes there's enough airflow.
