Fuel Pressure GAUGE install questions

I'm in the market for a tork converter lock-up device for my eBrake. I have a Pac-Brake and was considering a tork-loc or auto-loc by BD, but in reading throught thier instruction manual it says something about drilling the shaft on the cylinder or something or other to 19/32. I don't really think I want to do that because it's fairly new and it brings up warranty questions. Are there any other dealers that sell these type of devices? Does any one out there use something different? I understand the mistery switch is a little harsh on the transmission. Any suggestion welcomed.

arar,

Your post may possibly restart an old, and rather heated debate on the virtues of lockup devices.
Any of these lockup devices will be hard on the torque converter if misused. I speak from personal experience. I have had three transmissions and four torque converters in my truck. I believe now that I finally have the perfect setup for the automatic.

In the beginning, I installed a mystery switch to allow my Pac brake to function. It worked well in conjunction with the Pac brake but I wasn't always on top of turning it off when stopping, duh, same as stopping your 5 speed in gear except the clutch lining on a TC lockup clutch is no where near as heavy as the clutch lining on a manual transmissions clutch. Or, I would be cruising through the mountains with it on and see a great photo opportunity and have to brake quick to make the turn out and pull her down into second for added braking. On more than one occasion I would forget that the mystery switch was on and pull slowly back onto the highway. The truck would then shift, or try to shift into 3rd and 4th lock up with no where near the enough RPM.

Also, the mystery switch allowed me to force early lockup to make my truck move the way I wanted it to. All these things killed my torque converter and transmission and let me stranded in Tok, Alaska for 9 days awaiting a new TC and transmission. I had a new transmission and torque converter installed and on my way back to the lower 48 I stopped a BD and had a pressure lock and torque lock installed. Let me tell you it's almost as easy to abuse you TC with a torque lock as with a mystery switch.

I now have DDT's torque converter and valve body installed and no long want to force lockup. I have removed the torque lock and pressure lock and gone back to a mystery switch. The difference being this time I use the mystery switch for braking only and it is a momentary switch mounted at the bottom of my kick panel, I just press it with my foot when I need the Pac brake and the is no way a dummy like myself can ever forget to release it or leave it on when shutting down the vehicle. One other thing I did was have a relay installed that prevents setting a code when the mystery switch is used. I bought it from a guy at October Showdown whose name I can't think of right this moment.

DDT has a lockup system that is supposed to be fool proof but it has two many wires for my taste and besides my mystery switch does everything I need and is simple.

Long post I know but that's the way I feal about it.

Arlan

PERIOD... NO questions asked. Call Bill Kondolay at DTT and tell him what you want to do. He will give you the honest truth on what you need to do, and will give you pros and cons to everything. He is not a sales man at all. . just an all around great guy that is not afraid to tell you the truth on how things should work!

Hey Arlan, great post! However, I'm in the process of removing my Torqloc so I can install DTT's new Smart Controller. Eleven wires or not, I'm on board! Have you driven Bill's Ram with the Smart Controller? You can't beat it! Period. #ad

Another alternative to the TorqLoc would be to add the AutoLoc instead. The AutoLoc ONLY works in conjunction with an exhaust brake... when the exhaust brake is activated. The only down side being, you need to remember to manually disengage the exhaust brake/AutoLoc if in O/D at about 35 mph... if not you will experience ever increasing TCC shudder as you continue to deccelerate. With O/D Off the TCC shudder is not a problem with the TorqLoc or AutoLoc as both units will disengage at approximately 25 mph. I would like to point out that the mystery switch does not provide ANY sort of low speed disengagement, so TCC shudder is still a potential problem in the O/D Off mode. If you are going to use any of the following TCC lockup devices: mystery switch, TorqLoc or AutoLoc you need to remember to heed the above or kiss your expensive TC goodbye (and possibly your planetary gear assembly). In addition, if you are using either the mystery switch or TorqLoc, DO NOT use these to force the TCC to remain locked up while under 3/4 to full throttle acceleration.

..... ditto K_Arts post.

Hale on wheels, to answer your question (sort of), my understanding is that it only plagues the new California Rams.

I am running a mistery switch along with a Pressure-Loc on my 96. It works great with my Pac Brake and is really easy to install BUT YOU CAN'T FORGET ABOUT IT.

I have the opportunity to buy a BD 'Pressureloc' for about 1/2 price. My transmission shudders when shifting into 3rd gear now and I was informed that the 'pressureloc' would fix my problem(It only does this with my 'EZ' installed) Good idea or bad? I'm open, however, serious $$ before 4/15-01 tax day is a problem if anyone suggests a DTT VB/TC. I just want a temporary fix. #ad

Robby Ram,

Since your problem is in 3rd gear the pressure lock will not help you. As you say this only happens with the eze box,i would try another eze box first, plug in a buddys box and rule out that possibility first, this reminds me of hotshots post awhile back.

He bought the pressure loc and the problem was still there. Still shuddering. He bought a new tc from BD,shuddering was still there.
He bought a new vb from bd, shuddering was still there.

They sent him still another tc,shuddering still there. It turns out his shuddering went away when he disconnected the old VA & plugged a new one.

Moral of this story, diagnose the problem first before you change or add parts.

Brett & Taylor at Edge are top notch guys
with excellent tech support , call them if you need a hand.

My . 02 cents worth.

Another thing to consider is pinion angle, i once had a customer drive up from California for what he felt was a shot transmission, because the shuddering was so bad when he stepped on the throttle. Nope as it turns out, it was his pinion angle.

Another customer called a month ago wanting to buy a tc and vb, his 2000 was shuddering in 1st,2nd,& 3rd. Together we traced that
problem back to the new oil he was using.
He was was trying out the B&M trick shift.

There are so many causes,i strongly suggest you have it diagnosed first.
