number one i cant spell . can someone tell me what the front an rear diff cover bolts tork at on a 9. 25 front an a 11. 50. rear and what the trannie pan bolts tork at on a 48RE. 05 3500:

"tork" is spelled "torque". :-laf



Hey, I give you credit for admitting you're no good at spelling.



According to the service manual, the proper torque on the front and rear diff covers is 30 ft*lb.



However, there's no shortage of reports of the heads snapping off the bolts at that torque. Personally, I think it's too high myself. I torque to no more than 20 ft*lb.

I think the last time I changed the fluid I just snugged them - didn't bother with the torque wrench. No leaks.

Also, remember the gasket is reusable. Be careful not to mangle it.

30 ft. lbs. torque seems too much on these factory differential covers. Its quite near the shearing or stripping stage. The 20 lbs. torgue feels more common sense. Its better to torque these if one has a torque wrench as with the resuable factory cover, its more important.

I have a PML alluminum cover on my 04-5 CTD and their flange torque is suggested 20 ft. lbs. and the level and drain plugs 12 ft. lbs. This is the second time the resuable gasket had been used. Each and every one of us has a different sense of torque and a torque wrench narrows this error.
