When I pulled the fuel shutoff solenoid to put in 3K springs :p , I found the rubber boot around the plunger on the solenoid is shot! Rotten, torn rubber. Can I put on a new boot, or do I have to do the whole solenoid? Does it even matter? The plunger moved easily, with no grittiness.

You can swap on a new boot with out a new solenoid. I do believe Larry Bs website has them. Sorry I cant come up with the exact site off the top of my head, but it may be in the links section, or someone else in the know will put it out there for you. Them things are spendy to replace may as well do what you can to take care of it.

After having a replacement OEM style boot rot out in less than a year I went for a bicycle tube, still going strong after six years. Just cut a section about 3" long and use cable ties on both ends.

I think I can do that! The hardest part is getting the dang solenoid of the pump! That back bolt is a wee hard to get at. Need Michael Jackson arms and hands!

I used bike tubing, and it constantly came off. Had it securely in place with wire ties too. Thankfully that was the old truck, if have that prob on this truck I will probably get one of LarryB's boots. ;)

I happened to have a can of liquid electrical tape and coated it with that. It stays flexible and is still holding OK. At the time, I was told by Cummins and DC that I would have to buy a whole new solenoid to get the boot. I later found out that they are available.
