Need Some Serious Help Here Gang

Yah I've been known to chase a few storms. With a coke, on the couch, in the relative safety of my humble abode.

That being said, have you ever seen any of those photos of a piece of straw tornado driven through a concrete block?

Just the other day

I was telling a coworker that we are way overdue for a severe outbreak of 'nadoes here in the Cincinnati area. The last really bad batch was in '73 or '74,, and what you saw done to Greensburg Kansas was done to Xenia Ohio. Xenia was tore up so bad they made a documentary out of it. . There were over 140 tornadoes from Alabama to Canada during this 3 or 4 day stretch in April. over 20 F4's and 6 F5's are known to have formed.

I just hope I am at work and they either miss my house completely or they flatten it when they come again,,

Am I afraid of Tornados? You bet. Give me an earthquake or a hurricaine any day. Quakes very rarely cause major damage and you have almost always lots of warning for a hurricaine.

I have seen straw stuck in trees. Have been a little to close to several tornadoes, they sound a lot like a train going by, only without the clicking of the wheels. Was in a house that got moved off its foundation. Old house with a laid up rock foundation . And i was in the basement. Kind of scary.

Yikes Greenleaf
I've never seen a tornado in my life. They're very rare in the Northwest, thunderstorms are few and far between.

I've seen at least one documentary about Xenia Ohio. Greensburg Kansas was obliterated. My grandpa was there in 1965 and has quite a few pictures of the "Big Well" there. That would have been a good place to be Friday night

I think I'll take my lake effect snow instead of that stuff! Tornadoes are too unpredictable for me. If they tell you you're gonna get 2 feet of snow and you get 3, big deal! Tornado warning? SEE YA! I'm gone!

Yah, when you see 100 year old Cottonwood trees and cattle and barns flying around you should want to hide out in the basement.

Aerials of Greensburg Tornado Damage

I've been through that town before. Sure sorry to see it flattened like that. :(

I have seen a pic of a bird that had been driven through a 2x6 from a twister.

Where I used to live in NW Iowa, we had 3 twisters go through our yard. And a twister had taken the roof off of one of the barns before we moved there. We had our own tornado alley right there. Fortunately, we weren't home when any of them hit. After the first one, our dog wouldn't come out of her house when it even rained 'til about a day after the storm. That twister scared the **** out of her.

I live not 10 minutes from Xenia. I'm hoping my house never gets eaten by a tornado.

So far, I'd say this spring has been very mild in terms of thunderstorm activity.
