I've done many searches on here and a few other message boards, and can't come up any good articles on TC and VB installs. Does everyone out there take their trucks to transmission shops to get this done?? I've installed a few TC's in a couple different cars and was wondering if there were any helpful tips available for the CTD's ?

thanks

Well, just getting the trans out is more difficult in the Dodge/Cummins due to several things. One is the weight of the trans, then there is the Crossmember which is hard to get out and back in without a hydraulic spreader, then there are the Flexplate bolts, which are a bit hard to get to. Guys have done it by themselves, however.

Several companies will sell you just the TC and VB. At least one won't.

The major companies doing Good Performance Builds on our transmissions are ATS, Goerends, BD, Suncoast, DTT, and probably another one I can't think of right now. Although I am handy with engines and Transmissions, I went to ATS and had mine installed. If I were going to do it again, I would do the exact same thing! But if I were you, I would call all the Trans. Vendors and ask questions.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I purchased vb & tc from ats in Denver, CO. They came with complete instructions that were very easy to follow. Although I do have a mechanic's background, I am not a mechanic. I will tell you that I do have a car lift in my garage :) and I'm not sure I would attempt it without a lift and a transmission jack. Cause that would be a major pain in the @$$. It could be done, it would just be hard. They did tell me at ATS that the cost of pulling the transmission and putting it back in is worth $600. So maybe that would sway your decision. I haven't had any problems, and it seems to work well and is holding a lot of power over stock with a TST power max box. Good luck! -Robert

Thanks for both your replies. I'll definately be doing the install myself. I was just wondering why I wasn't able to find any write ups on the install. I will have the truck on a lift and a transmission jack to my disposal. It oughta be a full day's work. I plan to add some 275's as well, along with a full fluid change front to back.

I remember reading Threads of guys who installed their own ATS TC's & VB's, but I haven't been able to find them using the Search function either. Let us know how it goes!
