I think I just broke my torque converter going up hill the truck started slipping all of a sudden when it was going up a steep hill by my house --- no warning signs shown before

Does this Sound right? Help Need to know asap

2001 Dodge Ram Diesel 2500 Ram

Truck does ok in 2nd going under 25 mil

thanks

More information please.

How fast were you going when it stated to slip?

Will it lock up at all?

Does it lock and then un-lock?

Is it shifting correctly, or is it stuck in one gear.

Will it shift into reverse? And out of reverse into drive?

Have you parked on level ground and checked the fluid with the truck hot and in neutral? Does the fluid look burned?

Yes, the transmission slips in first and in second. It seems to lock up in drive and it does lock and unlock -- seems confused.

I did check the fluid level -- it seems ok not burned

The valve body was already replaced under warranty at 30k

I'm at 47 k now and out of warranty -- will be doing this work myself

Thinking about buying after market transmission

Please no war

thanks for responding

If it locks and unlocks as you are going along it is probably just the Throttle Position Sensor. Spray some electrical contact spray into the TPS housing and that should clean the contacts and should fix it.

If you are interested in one of the aftermarket trans builders, call them and talk to them. Ask them questions. Go with the people you feel comfortable with.

Transmission is slipping in first and second--

had to back all the way down the hill when it got stuck tonight would not drive up the hill

Does it slip in 1 and 2 or just 1st and 2nd in D? The TPS is not involved with 1st and 2nd. The first thing to do is a pressure check. If you have low pressure it's probably done and needs a rebuild.

"would not drive up the hill" is a bad sign!:( Sorry to hear. But on the bright side, now you can get a bombed transmission! ;)

ehenry,it sounds like its in limp in mode, starting out in 3rd gear. It may haven needed something simple as a gov soleniod. You may have smoked it driving it like that. Hopefully its simple to fix and you'll be back on the road again quickly. Let me know how you make out.
